It's all well and good Steve Parish telling us that we shouldn't allow media like The Mirror and Daily Mail to manage our expectations for us but it was Alan Pardew that said we were hoping to make a couple of signings in the next couple of weeks and that hopefully one of them would be a "big name"

When there is nothing being said by the owners, but the manager is making encouraging noises, supporters reliance on the media is inevitable. I personally think that that testy little tweet from Parish means the Benteke deal is either off, or was never on, but I hope to be proved wrong. For all the good things that Parish and co. have done for the club, their record on signing strikers, with the possible exception of Wickham, is abysmal.

I think it is probably a combination of his own frustration and being constantly criticised by people who struggle to string a sentence together. He gets a fair bit of abuse.

Yeah, and then the media drum up a load of s*** off the back of the comments. Is that Pardews fault? Or are we all of a sudden transfer experts who understand the process well enough to scrutinize the time scales involved with these supposed targets, how the club conduct themselves etc? The impatience and niaivity of fans on here is frightening at times, it really is. Just wait and see what happens before judging, unlike that complete and utter moron on twitter..

What I read from SP's tweet is that the deal is further away than many of us had hoped and the press keep making out that is near. I'm not sure now whether the impasse will be sorted out before the start of the season if at all. You'd have to be completely crazy to allow the window to close and only have Wickham up front so I'm sure SP will get at least one striker in but it may not be quite the signing it looked like a couple of weeks ago.
