Looks like we missed out on one potential replacement

Methinks the wrong man is getting a lot of flak. After a highly encouraging season last time out, the last 2 transfer windows have little short of awful - PV simply hasn't been backed properly. summer
Nothing changes significantly until there is significant change at the top. There may be 8 or 9 players or whatever is out of contract in the summer, but unless, and it is not certain, Mr Textor again puts his hand in his pocket as 2 summers ago, Mr Parish will in time-honoured fashion, no doubt do it on the cheap, plugging gaps with some of the Academy lads, which is not likely to be immediately fruitful in the top flight.

The man who said that this would be his last job in football when appointed Palace manager - and that was first time around some 13 years ago or so.

You have it all wrong! Vieiras job is to improve the players, instigate tactics and a style of play. It could be argued that a number of players have regressed under Vieira this season, that isnt the boards fault. Just buying more players isnt going to help at all, if they are not managed correctly.

Agree with this. It seems to me that PV still doesn't know his best starting 11 and tends to tinker with players and tactics randomly.
As another poster said elsewhere, running and effort come for free and the team has become the laziest seen at Selhurst Park for a long long time. That's down to the manager.

Yes, I agree. The most worrying aspect is that many of our players form has significantly worsened in the last year and there appears to be very little cohesion between defence and midfield and more particularly between midfield and attack.

Even when we do attack with pace you look in the box and there is no one there to get on the end of a cross. Contrast this with Liverpool’s goals against Everton last night where you had players busting a gut from midfield to catch up with play and they ended up with two side foot tap ins.

I'm not aware we have what one can legitimately call a midfield so it's hardly surprising there's a disconnect both defensively and offensively.

We can only hope that a starting midfield which includes 3 out of Doucoure, Hughes, Lokonga and Ahamada will begin to look like a proper midfield and start joining up the dots so to speak. We may well then see more cohesion and other players performing better.

I would play all 4 of them! Why wait? Ahamada played for a decent German team in Bundesliga, so he should be up for the task.

Southampton strengthened in the last window, but that wasn’t the problem. You seem to think just buying players solves everything, it doesn’t.

Getting the balance between sorting the wheat from the chaff in our mid tier purchases seems to be a problem with the scouting team. So much mediocre dross that in the end adds up to a pretty penny.

Too early to say, but one can hope that once they've settled, they will strengthen what is otherwise a woeful midfield, otherwise we will be in the proverbial.
