Possibly but not an idea I articulated. No, but I'm putting it into context. Iran are the scourge of the world. The USA probably tolerate them because it's less trouble than a major conflict. Problem is, they are close to producing enough material for a nuclear missile. It might be that neutralising Iran could be the only option in the not too distant future.

Stating the obvious doesn’t generally solve problems. Diplomacy is only part of the way forward. The realisation that the attack has totally failed to find targets will be a lesson well learned. That should mean that diplomacy has a more fertile ground to grow in. The first thing to try to achieve is calm and the resumption of a war of words as weapons, not drones and missiles. Then let the quiet diplomacy start. I listened to an American expert last night who made a lot of sense. He pointed out that constantly positioning Iran as a pariah and never rewarding them means they have nothing to lose. He was effectively recommending adopting a risk and reward strategy with them. Perhaps that’s what, in time, we will see.
Your mention of incentives for countries like Iran suggests that you may believe in the power of positive reinforcement.
I suggests that a combination of approaches, including military response if necessary, is needed to adequately address and resolve aggressive actions. Relying solely on diplomacy in complex scenarios involving aggression and conflict, is only one option. a more comprehensive approach, encompassing a range of strategies and considering underlying motivations, grievances, and incentives, is necessary for effectively resolving such issues.

I suspected our involvement from the start, there have been Israel military flights detected here and increased flights to Tel Aviv from Cyprus, and of course against the Houthis largely unsuccessfully. I just hope that we are not on the ground in any way. I am watching little Palestinian children queueing to have their identities tattooed on them, so if they do not make it through the night they will be able to be identified. That is what we are now complicit in. May I ask you your age. I only ask because the only two posts I have seen from you was one telling me to hang off a clock like Harold Lloyd, and now I've just read your childish dribble above are you old enough to even be on this site?

I hardly ever agree with Steeleye, he is our resident lefty however he is a long term poster and entitled to his views. He is also a useful source of information on youth and academy games and regularly updates the rest of us. You have only been on this site for a couple of months and only seem to post on this thread. This is a football website and whilst I welcome all you might want to post a bit more on the football as Steeleye does. Enjoy your day.

It sounds like there's some diversity of opinion on the site, which can be healthy for discussions. Steeleye you say contributes valuable insights beyond just his political views, which is appreciated. And sure, I'll try to engage more broadly in football discussions going forward. Thanks for the reminder!

My post was actually reporting what I had heard an American recommending. It was late on Friday evening as the attack was underway and regrettably I cannot recall his name but he clearly knew his stuff. From memory he was the Director of something like the “American and Arabia Institute” and had previously served in US administrations. So not my ideas. I suspect he was better informed than anyone here. Cynically dismissing foreign leaders as children is not his view. He believes the Iranians have been very clever with their strategy and are not fools. He also believes they are pragmatic and will respond to positive suggestions without needing to compromise their principles. He was very critical of past US policy. Not of the need to offer help to defend Israel but in the lack of subtlety in dealing with Iran. Any kind of military response by Israel would be calamitous, in my opinion. It is unnecessary. They made all the response needed on Friday night. Like someone facing a bully and avoiding all their blows by being quicker of thought and action, all that results is the bully running out of energy and ideas. There’s no need to punch the bully now. They know their aggression doesn’t work. Now’s the time to start talking.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

US and Israeli intelligence will know. You cannot hide such things or the tests needed. If they are then neutralising the threat must be done but hopefully via forensic and strictly limited action, announced in advance and justified to everyone, including Iran, with the opportunity offered to dismantle under international supervision first.
