UK jets now actively protecting Israel, what suckers.

Netanyahu expertly sucks in the west to his eternal war, it can never possibly be won, the Middle East is 95% Islamic.

I suspected our involvement from the start, there have been Israel military flights detected here and increased flights to Tel Aviv from Cyprus, and of course against the Houthis largely unsuccessfully.

I just hope that we are not on the ground in any way.

I am watching little Palestinian children queueing to have their identities tattooed on them, so if they do not make it through the night they will be able to be identified.

That is what we are now complicit in.

Which part of Israel being a vital part of our security in the Middle East don't you understand?

Have you ever noticed that tyrannical regimes seem to be a little short on moral concerns?
If our policy was to do nothing that involved questionable morals, we would currently be part of someone else's evil empire.

Get a grip.

The attack on the embassy was obviously based on intelligence.
Iran is clearly plotting increasing attacks.

I'm not quite sure why you think that these things just happen for no reason. That is extremely naive.

So kill them outside the consulate and not on Iranian soil.

And if you can't get em another way.

Naive? A state attacking diplomatic soil crosses the rubicon. That is rogue state stuff.

Iran fires missiles and drones at Israel, which is being labelled "a major escalation" by Israeli military.
The escalation happened when Israel thought it could bomb an Embassy in another country with impunity.
Careful, we don't want to upset some thenthitive people.

Is there anybody on here that can educate me re the attack in Damascus; I believe it was the consulate building that was bombed, not the Embassy. Just wondering if there is a legal difference re diplomatic immunity etc. in that the consulate building may not be offered the same legal protection. I’m not saying that the bombing was right; just whether there is a loophole for the bombing.

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

No one wants an escalation, but no response to this attack will only embolden Iran and anyone else who fancies attacking a Western ally.
The Chinese want Taiwan. Putin might like to take back former Soviet states.
Obviously, Iran wants to destroy Israel completely.

I'm not sure that restraint will actually lead to a better outcome. War is nonetheless unpredictable. What is predictable is that at some stage there will be a major conflict in the Middle East, and we had better be ready to act to protect our interests.

Are you sure about that? Putin might, as it would divert attention from Ukraine and tie up the Americans.

Most of the world doesn’t including, I expect, Iran as it’s not in their interests. Their strategy of proxy wars has worked pretty well for them and they know a full on all out confrontation would destroy them for sure, even if they don’t care about the other consequences. It’s not though in Israel’s ultimate interests either, as the risks are too high. There is no reason a major conflict in the Middle East is inevitable. Possible certainly but not inevitable. So whilst being prepared is sensible there’s no sense in deciding to get your retaliation in first. Diplomacy can work when it aligns with desired outcomes.

I heard that they were in a building next door to the consulate, if that helps your diplomatic sensibilities.

If you want to complain, then consider the stupidity of attacking the Israeli mainland in supposed retaliation.

It is certainly true that a number of scenarios could unfold, including attacks by different countries in different regions at the same time, designed to spread allied forces thinner.

If I were a military strategist for the West, I would have considered all possibilities and the current capability to respond.
If America and Israel are to respond, I would expect it to happen at a strategically favourable time rather than being provoked by the enemy.
If there is to be an immediate reprisal, I would expect it to be limited to military targets outside Iran or, at worst, sites in Iran from where missiles were fired.
As you suggest, Iran cannot win a major conflict, so their tactic will be to provoke conflict on other fronts or continue proxy attacks.
Doing that could still risk their destruction if Israel lose patience. The current regime isn't particularly known for restraint.

If that is so then I withdraw but if not then you are underestimating the difficult position Israel have put us in.

Otherwise it is a very thick red line that only terrorists cross

(Beat Liverpool though)

Terrorists don't play by rules, and when confronting them, there is little room for fair play if you want to prevail.

Iran sponsor terrorism globally. The idea that they are the victims in this is laughable.

I sincerely hope there's not war with Iran. I think people are underestimating them. It will be worse than Iraq - the initial military attack will probably be ok but the aftermath could be like a much bigger Afghanistan with a lot more soldiers.

Iran informed neighbours 3 days ago of their plan. They then tell the west. The west are ready to shoot down the bombs. Iran looks ok in its fans eyes as they have done something. It’s done I reckon !

Quite possible.

It is amusing that Iran wanted to retaliate when their buddies have been attacking Israeli interests for ages, but these are the games we play.

Possibly but not an idea I articulated.
