If it really wants peace it would be supporting the two state solution which the international community is supposedly pursuing rather than undermining it by stealing more land, moving more settlers to the West Bank and creating more unrest in Gaza. If Hamas would stop lobbing missiles at Israel, then the Israelis would stop lobbing missiles at them. But would Hamas stop unilaterally? I'm not sure. Or is this too simplistic?

I merely asked the question. I've said before, it comes down to whether one believes if Israel has a right to exist or not. History has shown that, whenever they drop their guard, someone, somewhere, has a pop at them. I'm pretty certain Israel would welcome an undertaking that none of their neighbours will try to obliterate them.
The terms they were offered in 47 were very preferential for a population who were mainly new to the area from Europe and had flooded the area in just a few decades. All the lefties who complain about the unfairness are probably also fans of unfetted immigration today....The parallels are almost amusing. Anyway 55 percent of the land was offered to a Jewish population of 30 percent..The Arabs refused...The UN made it happen and when they and the British left multiple Arab armies invaded and all got their behinds kicked....(The Jewish were considerably outnumbered but were fighting for their lives and had better US arms)..The Arabs proceeded to lose several wars and the territory that went with them....Like the Golan heights. Still......Your question is about now not then. Yes, Israel has a right to exist........The alternative now would be genocidal war as they aren't moving. They are a wealthy and healthy democracy in the middle east and as such a rarity in the region. The answer is a fair two state solution....There is no other acceptable game in town. Playing heroes and villains in this tragedy is too simplistic. We need to support the moderates on both sides....In this case Fatah and the Labour party.....Even though both are far from perfect. The long term aim of the surrounding (all islamic) countries is the ejection of the Jews from the caliphate. As long as Israel exists, the islamic world will strive to obliterate it by whatever means necessary. Working on the premise that Israel has the right to exist, surely the starting point in any negotiations must be acceptance of that right. Israel is surrounded by people who wish ill of it. We can debate forever the apparently brutal means the Israelis adopt to reinforce that right but the plain fact is, Israel's stance is essentially one of defensiveness. So, where do we go from there?

We wait.....Wait under the players are tired of killing each other and their paymasters Iran, Saudi and the US are willing to push the sides to agree to something practical. Until them this horrid tragedy of wasted lives will continue down the generations.
