Even if Austin stays with QPR in January I doubt if he will stay with them for next season if QPR are not promoted. He will want to play in the PL.

Yesterday after the game, Austin said his going nowhere.

And the fact he has already turned us down ! Plus of course nobody will pay what QPR want now he as he is free in the summer.

Its not ever going to happen...some people wishing won't change it.

That's my wish.

Mine too.

Have given up the interest in Austin. If he wanted to play for Palace then I'm sure that he would've entertained the move in the Summer. He just seems to be waiting to cash in, kerrching style, on present contractual situation.

1. There is no way we will pay top dollar for Austin based on a) He is near the end of his contract b) has question marks over his potential for injury c) Has the risk of being a 'one season wonder' at the top level.

2. Austin isn't as sought after as QPR, he or the media would have you believe - Have it from good authority that last year there was actually very little 'concrete' interest in Austin bar some tentative enquiries

3. Does Austin actually fit our transfer profile and the sort of player we are looking to bring in - I'd suggest not.

I think a Remy or someone out of left field from abroad is far more likely than Austin to be honest

Agree with all of this logic. However, and it's no more than a "feeling," I believe there is a very good chance Austin will join us in January.

It wouldn't surprise me Syd but I would think that it would be because we couldn't get Plan A over the line and it would certainly have to be at terms favourable to us rather than Austin or QPR - I cant see us having a gun held to our head for him

(I still think that Pardew wants Remy as his first choice)

What is "top dollar" though? I think the fact that he is at the end of his contract is largely a red herring, you either want a player or you don't. Is £8 Million a lot for what is pretty much a proven player? I don't think so. If his name was Carlos Austin a lot of fans would be wetting their pants.

I wasn't keen at the start of the season but I have changed my mind for two reasons.

i) We are doing considerably better than I envisaged

ii) £8 Million is not much of a gamble.

I am not sure that the "injury prone" label he has picked up is particularly fair either

True - however the bargaining chip in terms of price is length of contract remaining - if you pay £8m for Austin now (plus his wages) because QPR want to screw as much as out of him as possible or wait 4 months to get him for free - absolute no brainer.

Is Charlie Austin the player who will cement a Top 6 finish ? Arguably not

At the end of the day, Charlie Austin scored 18 goals last season in the PL for a team who finished bottom and I do believe he would be a real asset at our club.

There has been much talk of Vardy coming from Non-League - Austin used to be a bricklayer and played for Poole Town before Danny Wilson signed him for Swindon for an initial £15K.
