Surprised to see The Shield not mentioned anywhere.

Brilliant show.

I was thinking the same.

If you had to pick a top 5 - with a month off work, I need some inspiration!

Mine are as follows -

1. Breaking bad - I wanted to not like it because of all the fuss, but it more than lived upto the hype. Doubt it could ever be beaten.

2. Peaky Blinders - Best thing out there at the moment. Favourite UK series.

3. True Detective (season 1) - Second season is complete load of pony so far but its not a continuous series (as in the first has no links to the second). First season was amazing, Matthew Mcconaughey masterclass.

4. Suits - Not as dark and serious as the others but I challenge any straight man to not wanna be Harvey Spector.

5. Homeland - Seemed to lose its way from the 3rd season, but first couple were brilliant.

The ones I haven't watched that I've been told I NEED to are - Lost, 24, Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead. House of Cards.

Ive also tried Game of Thrones, The Wire and Prison Break but failed to really get into any of them!

I’m finding it hard to come up with my top five TV series without separating them into sitcoms and dramas, and then the list of my favourite comedies is longer than five while my list of dramas is shorter.

My favourite comedy series is The Simpsons, but you may have heard of it if not seen more than enough of it over the past 25 years like the rest of the world’s population. So, unless you’ve never seen The Simpsons, I would recommend something different...

My other favourite sitcom, a close second on my list, is Frasier. Not everyone has seen Frasier, although it was a big hit during its 11-year run in the ‘90s/early ‘00s. So if you are anything like most of the people I’ve met over the years and aren’t familiar with it at all, I would definitely recommend Frasier as an excellent comedy.

As for dramas, there is one I would suggest to just about anyone. I would recommend it to both men and women, even though it was something that only seemed to appeal to women when it was on. The series I’m referring to - and don’t laugh - is Desperate Housewives.

I thought Desperate Housewives was superb, packed with mystery, suspense and intrigue with its fair share of lighter comedic moments along the way. Each episode was cleverly tied into a particular theme common to the interweaving stories of the main characters every week. My mum and I loved all nine seasons, each of which seemed to get better than the last.

If you’re a bloke, chances are you’ve never seen Desperate Housewives so I would definitely recommend it to you along with Frasier. One drama and one sitcom.

Some of my other favourite sitcoms include Only Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers, which you must have seen by now, as well as Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm which you may not have seen but which are maybe more of an acquired taste.

The only drama I’m watching at the moment is Nashville, now in its third season on E4 on Wednesday nights. It’s very good, but maybe not top of my list.

Hope you find something you really enjoy!

Possibly the most overrated show in TV history - just off to get my tin hat..

You sure you watched the entire 5 seasons? Believe me when I say I wanted to say the same thing SO much just to shut people up, but I couldnt. Thought it was stunning, the storyline, setting, visuals, acting... Pretty much everything, was too too good.

I had the same thing with Wentworth prison, recently got to the end of season 2 - would be thought of as a woman's thing as its a woman's prison and seeing as it's Australian & channel 5 got the UK rights you'd assume it would be pony but I gotta say its actually s*** hot!

There is some absolute rubbish mentioned in this "best ever" list and I'm surprised that none of the older generation have mentioned Rumpole of the Bailey

Apologies. I should have.
