I am a dyed-in-the wool Conservative of many a year and I don't view myself as disloyal or treacherous.For starters, Cameron has NOT concluded his negotiations and he has "Ruled nothing out" but I suspect I know what will happen ! There are many, many Conservative grassroots members who are in the "Out" camp and there will be cabinet members who will also be amongst this faction.There is NO divide amongst party lines on this important issue with Labour MPs "For" and "Against" and of course this will be the same amongst the Conservative ranks. But if you go back to 1975 you will see that Maggie herself was all for Euro integration and its benefits outweighing the cons. And she was/is right.

How about the unions supporting our fishing industry then? If we leave, we get to cancel all the rights of EU fishermen in British waters and re-establish our own industry overnight. Since France is permitted to take something like 500% PER DAY more fish than our own fleet, this would be a major gain for the working men of our costal areas. Our farmers would be permitted to utilise our land in the way most suitable for OUR countryside - rather than having to obey set-asides and agricultural rules that only serve to benefit the French...... Manufacturing aside, there are plenty of workers who would benefit enormously from being out from under EU one-size-fits-all rules!

The model now is unrecognisable compared to the one we voted on in 1975. No single currency, no single market, and the European Parliament and Courts of Justice are far more powerful now. Anyway anyone under 58 has never had a say and it's about time the new model was properly tested by a free nonpartisan vote.

WELL SAID Becky a real common sense way to look at things and I am with you all the way on this one. We would be far better off outside than inside and we will have back our powers to decide who we allow in and what we allow to happen within our shores. The people who go on about trade and companies wishing us to stay in are ludicrous. The companies that are building up their companies here are not doing it because we are part of the union but because we are a trading nation that can be relied upon. Plus these companies like us!!!
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |
