It hasn't been an Anglican "tradition" since 1930.

Can't help finding it at a bit odd that atheists subscribe to traditional christian values.

Are you saying that you believe in something that you don't believe in?

I think you will find from this, from the CofE General Synod records, that the Church is still currently against abortion in all but the most difficult situations.

As for the record, being an atheist just means that you don't believe that there is a proven case for a god or gods....

Perhaps you could find a different way to describe what you think is important? Christian values means a whole host of different things.

Most of the be nice to each other stuff is common to all religions.

Thanks but I was referring to contraception which was accepted in some circumstances in 1930 and became entirely accepted in 1958.

That is a selective piece of quoting that is completely unworthy of you.

The full quote was:-

"I don’t manage the funds and haven’t done so since I became an MP. But the funds have to be run in accordance with the requirements of the investors and not according to my religious beliefs.

“This is not something I would wish to invest in personally but you have a duty as an investment manager not to impose constraints on investors.”

Well no it isn’t. That element wasn’t included in the Sun article

Nevertheless he doesn’t state he wasn’t involved in the original investment decision, It is very clear he is fully aware of the issue and could have chosen a different path

He is simply someone that creates verbal smokescreens to follow a path that suits himself. Something at which he is very good. It is exactly that ability that alienates most voters. Some politicians do what they want and then explain it away with their clever self serving rhetoric. Very hard to have trust

Atheist or not I'm from the judeo-christian tradition, why do I have to find a 'different way'?....I'm hardly preaching, just mentioning a general agreement on an issue.

The amount of criticism Mogg gets for this is absurd....the convolutions made over him and the motives subscribed are almost theatrical.

Back to brexit.

Is this for real or just more project fear?

Well yes it does, would you say that to ex Sikhns or Muslims? I summise you actually know what I mean.

Obviously it means you relate to the history and traditions of that religion without necessarily adhering to its tenets or indeed agreeing with them.

If you are bought up within a religion...even if it's just passing.... it's likely to influence you.

I think i know what you're trying to say yes. But to claim that you are a part of a Judeo-Christian tradition is ridiculous when belief in the one God is the primary belief in all three of the main Abrahamic religions.

Traditions need to be participated in or they cease to be traditions.

You may well share some of the same values as a Christian but if you don't believe in god then you aren't any part of that tradition.

Hence you might want to call it something else?

Otherwise you might be guilty of what you keep accusing me of which is picking the bits you like and ignoring the bits you don't.

Yes I do regard you that way...tempered by the reality that this is based purely upon text written on a forum....It's an observed criticism not a knowledgeable one.

If you were to accuse me of the same thing in regards to religion.....sure, it's a valid criticism in a sense....To say though that I'm not part of the tradition is nonsense, as I was raised in it.

However, I'm not really gaining anything by this choice. I never claimed to be a Christian now as I don't have the belief that Jesus is the lord and saviour....Because, come on, everybody knows that is Brian....Who was a very naughty boy who died for our sins.

But being serious again, I side with a lot of Christains on the disquiet and heavy doubts on the subject of abortion. However, it wasn't Christianity that convinced me about abortion so this is something I share with rather than having been informed by religion....what can I say that's more than that.

Whereas the lefty who conveniently becomes a sensible neo liberal when a policy is likely to affect them....Well that can be seen through a different lens.....

I think trying to explain to the people of Northern Ireland that they're free from the shackles could be a bit tricky.
