This will confuse some.

Thatcher's jumper has only flags of Western Europe. That has all changed now and the magnet is this land or Merkel's.

Why 'Christ' on a Bike? Why not 'Allah'?

We risk sleepwalking to disaster...

Brexit isn't a cure-all for all ailments:

Feel your life is missing something or not as good as it used to be? Oh,I know, must be because of those EU migrants...Tosh of the highest order.Bit like the ordinary Protestants and Catholics historically being conned into blaming each other in N Ireland for life's ills.

Or maybe its because if we Brexit we can spend £300m a year more on the NHS?.....Yeah,right,don't you just know Boris Johnson and Michael Gove are itching to spend loadsa money on public services..

Or maybe its because we miss having an Empire...Oh dear, the world moved on 50 years ago and we still haven't woken up to it...

The EU has many many faults but a looming spectre of possible Brexit really is like heading the wrong way down a one way street at 90mph...scary indeed...

Thought this article yesterday was a decent read.

ps. Anyone else ashamed by the cnuts showing off their "patriotism" in Marseilles (shame on those with the Palace flag) and illustrating precisely why the EU was such a good thing in countering dodgy nationalistic tendencies in Europe..do you think our "ambassadors" in Marseilles are likely to be instinctive "remainers" or Brexiters?

Good post Legal and a very sobering article. I too would prefer a Trump presidency (given the lesser of two evils)....but it seems that all the warnings from nearly all of our major political parties, nearly all independent forecasters an economists and nearly all of the major unions and TUC are just being dismissed now as 'project fear' or from 'some TLA' who 'have been wrong before'.
...and so we lurch towards a truly dangerous tilt towards far right wing nationalism (in the name of nostalgea and British identity which will surely harm the economy (and with it all of our public services), our living standards, our workers rights and our security....i shake my head that this is even conceivable in what i regarded as a rational society.

I pity you too...so young but so self all knowing...but perhaps knowing little from some points of view...I wasn't actually comparing EU migration to the Troubles...I was using the example of people being conned by being encouraged to blame their ills on the "other" of a different ethnicity...of which N Ireland's history 1910 (before it was established I know) -1969 was such a shining example...

Hopefully,at some point you might even be able to "debate this topic properly"

Wow, brilliant, i've never said nor implied that I 'know everything' but don't let that stop you from using it as a patronising mark against me.

Then you imply that Brexiteer fears of immigration come down to ethnic differences, and that we aren't clever enough to make up our minds on our own, we must listen to dear leaders Boris and Gove to 'con' us into our (racist) opinions.

Finally topped off with an example of how two groups of people who were ethnically the same but differed by religion had issues with one another dating back through centuries of complicated history involving a lot more than immigration yet apparently, is a 'shinning example' of this.

Thought Jack Nicholson was great in the Shinning.

I've noticed that a lot of the undecideds I've spoken to or read are the ones who have read most widely on both sides of the argument.
It's disgraceful that it's really difficult to sift what is bulls*** and what is fact during the whole referendum.
The radio 4 programme 'more or less' will attempt to get to the truth behind claims from both sides this week. [Link]

One hopes that it will provide a bit more clarity to help me make a sound judgement.

Also, I asked the other day whether brexiters had any concerns about leaving, conversely any remainers had any concerns about staying. No responses to that so far. This is a shame because anyone should realise that obviously there are pros and cons to both sides of the argument.

We've reverted back to the original 'argument' used against those who question the EU/express concerns about immigration levels, in branding them right wing or racist.

This is the level they're now having to drop to as it becomes increasingly clear to free thinkers and those willing to have their minds changed that leave is the right thing to choose. All reasonable arguments are either meet with the above, or ignored all together if it's regarding something other than immigration.

I'm still waiting for Leave to tell us how we WILL be better off economically, and how the last 70 years of peace in Europe WILL be continued and strengthened and not undermined in the mid to long distant future upon a Brexit.

If they could convince on those two points it wouldn't be 50/50 but a landslide in their favour.

We are massive net contributors to the EU coffers which is why most of the union don't want us to leave. And NATO is the rock bed of peace in Europe and that won't change whether we're in or out.

The EU is only around since the 90s, not 70 years. People want a common market and nothing else.
