Good post, but disagree with this.

I think some undecided voters will vote for the status quo, but I also think a fair few people are secretly much more eurosceptic than they will let on in public. I think some people in the REMAIN camp, but not the actual campaign itself still think its 'racist' to vote to leave. Although the situation is improving quite a lot as people actually taking the time to look at the debate in detail rather then instantly resort to rhetoric and insults (mostly).

At the start of this campaign, while representing my country at a Culture Festival, I was chatting to a passing student (from the UK) for about 5 - 10 minutes. When she asked me about my voting intentions, I said I was for 'Brexit' she looked rather puzzled and asked for clarification as to what this term meant , when I spelled it out for her, she just questioned if I was a 'stupid F***king idiot' and then stomped off. Bizarre exchange really.

I hope you punched the bitch.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Leaving will at least put it off for a few generations.

There is no status quo - the model is increasing federalism with I think another 6 or 7 wanting to join.

As it happens, Mrs Gusset used to care for a boy with complex needs. My younger sister aka Amytheeagle on here sometime back is a carer for Marie Curie and my big sister has worked in about 5 old people's homes as a carer (ironically, she works behind the bar in a conservative club)
I was also friendly with the 3 carers who would visit the old lady who lived opposite until she herself moved to a care home.

Students today have a tendency to shut debate down.

If she gets her way it'll be less likely she and/or her children will have any joy buying a house anywhere near where she wants.

Funny one I heard last week was on BBC. A Welsh early 20's care worker is a remainer. All her family are Leavers. She said she wants to remain so she can go and work abroad because that's how things are going.

Aren't things going how she says because we're in Europe? And haven't they been saying that the care work industry relies on immigrants? So why does she need to work abroad if there's a shortage?

I personally count myself as a student as im still studying, so we aren't all that bad, but yeah. Most of the British students on my program all study a European language in addition to Chinese so they have spent time living in France, Germany, Spain etc. It can't be denied being part of the EU does help somewhat with studying abroad in Europe, but its far from essential. Sadly many from this group have grown up with the notion that the EU is a necessity which has only been reinforced while studying in Europe. While plenty are happy to discuss the pros and cons of EU membership, some feel leaving the EU would devalue their degree or harm their prospects which of course can trigger a lot of raw emotion in the student population.

Ignorance is bliss.

Edit: that's a bit unfair. People believe what they read in the papers and bulls*** online.

I think you're on the right lines here. I suspect there are many "shy Brexiteers" than there are "shy Remainians". Why? Because we've been browbeaten (by these rampant pro-EU from a particular political persuasion) into thinking that the former is nasty, racist, xenophobic and most importantly shameful.

All it's done is generate an undercurrent of resentment. The eroding support for Labour in their devout northern strongholds is testament to that: the elitist middle-class Labour just doesn't represent these people any more, and doesn't understand them.

But they don't like being taken for fools. A "principled" Labour leader, rampantly anti-EU in the past dramatically U-turns. A muted Labour campaign with no enthusiasm. I think people will connect the dots, see casual Labour collusion with the big banks and (gasp!) Tories and see it as a betrayal. They'll punish them in the ballot box, and this is a way to do it without (as an election would) removing power from the left and handing it to the right.

They'll never tell us that though. Because it's shameful to admit it. Leave the EU? That's for racists.

Not much 'Entente Cordiale' in Marseille tonight where by all accounts the French Old Bill allowed Non EU Russian Ultras to attack fellow EU Citizens.
