The only really surprising thing for me in all this is that you seem surprised by all this. We have all lived our whole lives in a representative democracy, which asserts parliamentary sovereignty and a constitution based on precedence.

Now if we want to make arguments for direct democracy, that's good and refreshing. But what seems to be happening now is that people are arguing for it out of no real ideological belief, but because it is a convenient mechanism for getting what they want.

Yes, you may feel alienated if Brexit doesn't go the way you want. But join the f***ing club. Why do you think so few black people, migrants, students, disabled people vote? Neoliberal capitalism has been making a joke out of popular autonomy for far longer than Brexit, this is just it's latest iteration.

Ethnic minorities on the electoral register are just as likely as white British electors to vote. It also seems they might like to vote more than once or encourage others to vote a certain way, if given the chance, as recently seen in the Peterborough by-election.

Students are either too young to vote or are too busy virtue signalling too their peers about the patriarchy to bother about voting. Your brain doesn't fully develop until about 24 years old by the way (and people want to lower the voting age).

What do you mean by migrants? Obviously illegals should not be voting and I would argue, why should they be in a position to vote until they have been UK citizens for long enough to make a positive financial contribution to society and understand our political landscape. Most immigrants vote Labour (or some form of socialist) for free stuff which is ultimately self defeating for them.

Disabled people - maybe that include's people with learning difficulties?

All that said, I agree on your point of the ongoing problems of "Neoliberal capitalism" but that's exactly what you are voting for with the EU. I just don't see how people don't get that.

Well Gina Miller is backed by that odious little c*** soros...so he is probably richer than the government.

That's a new version of the Soros conspiracy theory that he is behind every challenge to populism.

Did you hear it on Facebook, or do have any actual evidence?

Of course she is. She has a British passport and British citizenship. She just wasn't born in the UK itself but in British Guyana.

Good to know. If the court decides in her favour I’ll ask them to think again. After 30,000,000 people have put their requests in we might finally get somewhere.

You would be too late.

Once the Supreme Court decides something they won't entertain further arguments.

The only way to change it, is to change the law. In Parliament.

True, but that get a a bit muddied when the leading figure in the leave campaign is a former merchant banker, who is characterizing the EU as too restrictive on our ability to 'trade freely'.

You then have the process carried out by a party whose idol is Thatcher, the queen of neoliberal politics, led by a man who takes his money from the city (Johnson) with Rees Mogg in tandem, who runs a hedge fund!

The idea that you could disagree with the EU as being a neoliberal institution and vote for Farage or the Tories is a bit like saying you hate global warming then investing all your money in Shell and BP.

If punk ever happened I'd be preaching the law, instead of listenin to Lydon lecture BBC4

How many remain lobby/activist/pressure groups are there exactly compared to leave? There are hundereds of these and all seem to be well funded. Do you think that it's an accident that every time there is a march or protest they all turn up with huge numbers of pre-printed identical signs. Only the Brexit party have been able to do that on the leave side mainly funded by large numbers of small donations.

This is just a non exhaustive list of remain pressure groups and campaigns even before the original referendum:

British Influence (Centre for British Influence Through Europe)ration.
European Movement UK
Federal Trust for Education and Research
Young European Movement
Academics for Europe
Generation Europe
Healthier IN the EU
Historians for Britain IN Europe
Irish for Europe
Lawyers – In For Britain
New Europeans
Out 4 In
Scientists for EU
Students for Europe
UK Indians for Remaining in Europe
Universities for Europe (Universities UK)
Campaigns by cause
Environmentalists for Europe
Friends of the Earth Trust
Global Justice Now
Third Generation Environmentalism
Workers’ Europe
Another Europe is Possible
Brand EU
Business for new Europe
Cambridge for Europe
Keep Scotland in the EU
London First
North East for Europe (NE4EU)
St Andrews for Europe (SAfE)
Wales 4 Europe
Conservatives Europe Group
Conservatives In
Labour In for Britain
Labour Movement for Europe
Greens For A Better Europe
#INtogether (Liberal Democrats)
Hug A Brit
Pro Europa
Say Yes to Europe
We Are Europe
UK to Stay in the EU
Stay in Europe
Wake Up Europe

How can Soros involvement be deniable when we know he was meeting with Tony Blair on Brexit and donated at least £1.7m? He's yet another one that's also not a UK citizen.

I'm personally not a fan of Thatcher although she did some things that had to be done (that even subsequent Labour governments decided not to reverse). To her detriment She ushered in a period of overt selfishness in our society in the 80's that we have never recovered from.

To my mind conservatism is not all about economic gain but the principles of freedom, self determination but very social responsibility or social conservatism if you like. Crony capitalism (asset stripping and the like) has been a cancer in the west for too long. I'm a believer in the free market to the extent that people are providing some value to the wider society rather than just themselves. Even merchant bankers can do that.

What I also find really interesting is that the left are willing to call this one an "anti-Semitic conspiracy theory". Perhaps because they thought they cornered the market in these.
