The failure of the garden bridge has been appalling and short shortsightedly depressing. When Khan refused to fund it I tweeted angrily at him about him killing the project. Just goes to show you what voting Labour does....Took glamour girls pictures off the tube as well...Khan's an arse.

Just like before the Olympics the 'anti' brigade were in full force against the bridge project. Just like they exist for all projects.

Well, they won and got their way.....Maybe their can go onto some other projects now and fcuk them up too.

Nimbys.

True, but then private companies also don't deliver the same kind of accountability that government agencies have to, as they're accountable to the electorate as well as law.

As a rule I think Business tends to be more efficiently organised that government agencies - but that their employees (until recently) are generally worse off in terms of their jobs, and usually they're the ones who are accountable for business failures, or the desire to raise the share value (not all redundancy is about 'cutting losses').

I do think that a percentage of the civil service is basically an outreach charity program for about 20-25% of its employees - who'd never cope outside of the civil service (having 'serious issues' that no private employer would take a risk on).

Government agencies are accountable to the public - every four to five years, as the head of the department can be voted out of office.

You don't get that for a CEO...

Yeah Private Companies tend to be more efficient - but in terms of Employees, traditionally they get a better deal (decent wage, good pension, 'job for life', good training, promotion prospects etc even at the bottom end as an AO).

You'd don't get that working in Tesco.

I generally agree with most of what you have said here. I've worked for public and private enterprises. The private companies were more efficient and dynamic with less dead wood. I worked for the Gas Board years ago, it was actually well run and delivered quality, but it was chronically over-staffed, there were people there who did about five minutes work a day, they simply had non-jobs. Mind you I did find that in a private insurance company, it was heavily associated with the church, which might explain it. Worked for Lewisham Council for a year or so. The place was an utter shambles with a Trotskyite, vegetarian, union branch secretary constantly trying to make it even more of a shambles.

Many a true word said my friend.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

Well, there you go. We all differ in our own ways I suppose and that's the way of the world.

I've always been a big infrastructure guy.

Why not create something beautiful for generations of Londoners to enjoy and visitors from all over the world.

Is it worthwhile is what we should be asking not just the price.

Yes from me.

Yes from me.

It should be a bridge not a f'in arbour.

UK will 'mirror' much of EU customs system for Brexit, plans reveal.

No point in brexit at all.

Let's mirror all of it.......

You keep things that are of benefit to us. The point of Brexit is to have our own parliament running our country and making our laws rather than a failing EU.

The UK is failing not the EU.

Mrs May and her gang already have too much power.

Nobody treats you worse than your own kind and especially the tories.

Well perhaps you need to move to the EU then.

If you don't like it, when you have the funds, move to where you do like it.

I don't need to as the UK is part of the EU.

Re- The Garden Bridge.

This topic came up a few months ago on LBC. A caller rang in and he was absolutely gobsmacked in relation to 'The funds paid out v The progress (pfft)' of this project.
I can't remember too much of the detail but the caller absolutely knew his stuff and has a long career based in detailing everything involved with large construction projects from inception to completion. He's followed this project with interest, studying the minutes from meetings (home and abroad), tracing monies paid etc but he continually came across 'secrecy' along with 'dubious' invoices but the main point that i remember is that the chosen architects (Lumley's mates) should never in a million years have won the contract due to their lack of experience compared with the other bidders, and they were also more expensive. Hmmmm......?
Although he never said it, i got the feeling that Ms Lumley also made a tidy sum from this 'project'.

(Ab)Fab work if you can get it.
