Sschteve McLaren was a laissez faire type management and look what he did at Newcastle. And listen to his Dutch accent speaking English. Pr&t.

Allardyce has pretty much always delivered or over delivered. I wrote him off a couple of years ago but I take it back. He's not outstanding but he'll do well enough or hopefully better than the last few failures. Only after Allardyce could we hire someone really decent, not before. Nobody will come near our sh1t right now.

I think there are some positives here, Allardyce won't suffer fools, he makes his teams work hard and brings strength and unity.

The way we switched off and let Iceland score 2 quick fire goals (I would like to think) wouldn't happen under his coaching

He has a good record of getting big name players and getting the best out of them like JayJay Okocha and Djorkaeff, a good quality needed to get the best out of our underperforming England players

But best of all he is English and the England manager should be English

Main pro for Allardyce is that he isn't a "FA Yes man" so he will say what he thinks is wrong. And that may help the process of changing the success from bottom-up.

Having said that, the identity he would likely want to implement probably isn't one I would want the grassroots of English football to follow (although you might argue it already does) so I wouldn't want him involved for too long.

Given how s**t England have been, I think a no nonsense, doesn't give a f**k who you are manager is a pretty decent choice.

He probably won't win anything, but you can be fairly sure that it'll be a focus on team work, controlling the game and defence. Something England badly need.

He also might be the kind of manager who doesn't give a f**k about dropping 'the media' favourites.

S**t, an English manager should be s**t. I don't really subscribe to the idea the English manager should be English, on the basis that there are a) very few top English managers and b) even less with experience of football outside of England.

Other international teams seem to have managers who have competed at high levels, as opposed to managers who are better known for having 'kept teams up'. Hodgeson, was probably one of the most experienced English managers ever, and lets face it, his most well known achievement was keeping Fulham in the premiership....

Is there an English manager with real experience in say the Champions League, or UEFA cup?

And yet, we expect an English Manager to do well at even higher levels than the UEFA and Champions League.

Harry Redknapp has CL experience and Woy got Fulham to the Europa League Final losing to Atletico in the last few mins of extra time.
