But shouldn't they have waited until he got his gun out before shooting him? I have not read the details of this shooting but no doubt these policeman have families and would like to get home to them safe. They are doing a job. Sorry.

Its also relevant that in such a situation, the use of pepper spray, batton or taser would have been justified. Lethal force, certainly not.

That could arguably cover a very large section of society. In some states you have white people with assault rifles going into restaurants and airports, and no one is shot. Then you have here a restrained black male, shot after two police officers have physically immobilised him. I can't see any justification for the use of deadly force in that scenario.

A second video now circulating of Philando Castile who was pulled over for a busted brake light, told the officer that he had a license to carry and was armed, was asked to produce his driving license and documents, and was shot 4 times in the arm when he reached for his pocket, he died with his girlfriend and her young child in the car - the girlfriend live-streamed about 10 minutes of it on facebook after the shooting had taken place. Not sure on the accuracy of some of the details of this one, but the footage is very distressing - oh, and of course he was black. Edited by EverybodyDannsNow (07 Jul 2016 11.46am)

There seems to be an attitude, by some at least, in US law enforcement that shooting suspects is something that is routine and can be covered up or brushed over. That is unacceptable. Defending ones self or minimising the risk to ones life in the line of duty is totally acceptable.

They key seems to be being poor. The shooting of poor latinos and whites seems to go largely unreported. There is a problem, many cops are far too trigger happy. But it is far more complex than just race. Don't get me wrong, race plays a role, as latinos and african americans, in particular, make up a disproportionate number of the poor in the US. Does filming post incident actually help here or provide any evidence to what occurred? Wouldn't you try and stem the flow of blood instead of getting your phone, opening facebook, setting up a live stream and then filming it.
