Only 7 defenders in the squad and that includes Fryers. Two injuries and a suspension and we are in trouble.
First team looks great, but in our 23 there is Appiah, Fryers and Sako.
We have bought quality but injuries will hamper us even more than last year.
Nearly a great window. But not quite.

Trouble with a bit more quality from the wings and centrally which you didn't mention to the new additions in the box is that apart from Townsend in for Bolasie it's exactly the same. 2 quality strikers but they can't supply themselves unless we play Benteke and Remy against bottom sides at home.

I think Wilf will improve with better players around him & strikers who can tell him where & when they want the ball.

Quality breeds quality & I'd like to think we'll see others step up a gear too.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

One of APs major concerns last season was the squad lacked depth. Now we have 2 less squad players and are dangerously short in several areas. In fact we don't even have 25 players for the squad. When the injuries come we will be forced to play guys out of position. Anybody who thinks this has been a great window needs to stop smoking crack and take their eyes off the forward line to look at the rest of the squad.

Its impossible to take my eyes off the forward line because surely the biggest problem last year with our squad was that we had no effective strike force.

And three below-average keepers (love him but sorry Jules is over the hill).

Both of these problems are fixed.

Also I'm far happier with Tomkins replacing Delaney as opposed to Brede/Mariappa etc. And personally, I think Townsend is a reasonable improvement on Yala.

Ideally we'd have bought an replacement for Jedi but maybe we're not going to be playing 2 DMs week in week out. We do have YC, Jim Mac and Joe Ledley. We had Punch playing in the middle 2nd half vs Bournemouth and that turned the game around. I saw Mutch do a good job in the middle last season before we lost all form.

All in all when I look at the squad I see a vast improvement in quality in the key positions.

This is a good point but one of very few I've read from people who ignore the lack of additions to midfield whilst only looking at signings made on 2 strikers, a winger, a centre back and a keeper. Just one midfield player would have made a big difference.

I thought that "the biggest problem" was lack of service, at least that's what I read on here constantly. When did that problem go away, or did it never exist in the first place?

It will be interesting indeed to see how our midfielders and wingers do with the strikers we now have. Conviction that a good pass will likely result in a goal could be a real motivating force. Ian Wright made a lot of players look amazing and, when he left, they turned a lot more average.

Question for the real enthusiasts -- is Dreher from the yoof set up seen as anything special?

On a positive note, we know Parish was trying to sign a midfielder and this means he knows the position needs to be strengthened.

So ok, bad news that we didn't sign one. But we can be assured that this is the position we'll be looking at over the next few months. And once that's sorted and possibly another defend.

Well blimey we will be an established team.

Overall it's been a positive window for sure.

Spot on. If we are savvy early in the Jan window, we can possibly grab one of our targets then. Possibly Lucas Lima, Rincon etc. positions will be clearer or some other midfielder who is showing form. The trick will be to do a small amount of business early. Defo been a positive window with some real quality gained, no AFCON issues with all our signings as well.

Its all about opinions Dave and I would agree with those that say our attacking midfielders weren't firing much in 2016. But we were/are variously described by almost all commentators as toothless last year. Our strike force was clearly below par and our biggest problem if you were really honest about it.

Wasn't our new captain our top scorer? Wickham had his moments but certainly didn't set the world alight. As for Adebayor, Gayle and Campbell - well what can I say? I would say the first two have their level - except for Fulham decided against Adebayor. And Campbell will be gone next year.

Players aren't my worry the manager is?

No. Other way round for me. The manager is sound. Give him the players and the support and he will win for us.

I think this has been a great window. I can't wait to see Benteke and Remy together and Remy's movement on and off the ball, combined with Benteke's goal threat is really very exciting. Keeping Zaha which has been overlooked by many is also very important. For those comparing what was done with an what could have been done in an ideal scenario need to compare our position with other premiership teams. An article in The Guardian this evening points to serious discontent amongst the hierarchy at WBA.....will Pulis walk again ? Compare ourselves also with Burnley, Sunderland, Middlesborough, Swansea, Watford and Hull to name just a few and we have done really good business.

Great window. We bought prem players from top-half teams. We added 5 starters, lost 1. Lost 2 squad members to the Championship, and a goalie, but we essentially bumped 4 starters to the squad).

Perhaps more importantly, we didn't lose Zaha, or Dann, or Wickham, despite rumours.

And lastly, I'm quite happy we didn't blow 30 million on freakin Sissoko.

Depending on where we sit and who's injured in January, we should have the cash to keep improving --and this year we look even more attractive, so we may get more than crazy castoffs.
