The public are being lied to by people with political agendas.

The kindest thing we could as a country would be to launch a ground offensive against ISIS in Syria. We didn't create the problem there but we should sort it out, for the good of the people and our own security. No one wants war but there appear to be few other choices as ISIS, despite Jezza's suggestion, don't want to talk.

There was an opportunity early on....Far earlier bombing of Assad and his forces..no fly zones and this was a stage where there was a far larger moderate division of forces to work with. Arming them and training them early would have been more effective.

The west did nothing for them and they were killed or melted away into a much smaller group leaving mostly just the extremists.

As usual the leftists screwed it up.

As for the form of intervention Syria is a foreign culture. I wouldn't myself place direct combat troops on the ground. They say they want you but in reality they quickly become resentful and turn against the 'outsider'.

I disagree. We could go round in circles, is it worth it?

However, last word, (before everyone starts laying into Lily again)reuniting families torn apart by war isn't really that bad a thing. There's much worse going on in the country to be worried about...

Hope it is your last word on this as you are making yourself look a bit stupid.
Majority are not famalies, A lot are not even from war effected areas and they are nearly all men. The rigourous checks you mentioned yesterday didnt actually include checking that these so called children are actually related to the so called famalies/men already in the UK. They have failed with basic checks. The checks allowed a 38 year old child migrant in.

I have just caught up with this thread and am still shaking my head. The far right are not talking about the sterling crisis, the low yield and annuity rates (directly hurting pensioners), rising inflation and reduced funding for public services etc all directly caused by the brexit vote and its propganda campaign but instead are talking about taking in 14 REFUGEES! ....intentionally undermining all refugees and immigrants in the process led by the HOL's very own Lily Allen ( i still laugh at that one).
I wonder if in this great and proud to be Christian country we will still take advantage of the christmas holidays, (meant to celebrate the shelter provided to a middle eastern refugee family and the subsequent birth of Jesus) or we will just send out a few naff cards and presents then pop open a couple more tinnies of special brew....i suppose we could then blame refugees for the hangover....better than blaming yourself innit

You'll be telling us the mess made in Iraq was the fault of the Socialist Workers Party next.

Which particular Leftists - and by that term we have to be talking about not socially conscious liberals but proper Wedgie Benn types, right? - are the ones that let the Syrian people down in 2011/12?

I do agree though that something militarily swift and concrete needed to be done back then to oust Assad.

Who cares what the "far right" are saying any more than the "far left"? I don't think anyone in this thread so far is far right or far left though.

Well when I refer to leftists I'm referring to those who voted against action.

So I'm combining a fairly diverse group of people here....So perhaps the word 'leftists' isn't quite accurate.

But those on the left made up the majority of those against action.

They think they were being ethical....In fact they have elongated a war and hence allowed innocent death numbers to be far worse.

The war is far from over.

We are not a Christian country.

Do you go to Church? If you did you would know that quite clearly.

30 of Camerons own MPS voted against for military action and scuppered the motion. They will be right-wing types. And that was in 2013 when things had got very messy. Help was needed straightaway in 2011 and 2012 in reality if the revolution was to succeed.

I do go to church actually, sometimes twice a week, ...and I think you will find that the leaders of this country would consider this a christian country although I know the secularists, humanists, atheists are growing in their calls to abolish the Christmas and Easter holidays and associated traditions e.g nativity plays etc

In the 2011 census 59% of residents of England and Wales described themselves as Christian. In Scotland, the figure was 54%, down from 65%. In Northern Ireland 83% said they belonged to a Christian denomination.

Lets have a second census!
