Would prefer over PVA, tidy player. Basically a straight swap for Townsend, considering we would then (presumably) recoup the 10M we paid up front to return him to Newcastle. I'd imagine Brady would want similar wages, so shouldnt impact FPP, if so

Agree would rather Brady.think his the better player and more versatile also.

Maybe could come in to a central left midfield role if Cabaye left for Marseille?

I can see the logic in bringing in all three of PVA, Brady and Schlupp. We have been woefully deficient down the left side this season since Bolasie left and Pape got injured which has made the team totally unbalanced. Assuming we go for a 442 or 451, PVA starts at full back, Brady starts as left winger and Schlupp is cover/alternative for both. Townsend goes back to Newcastle. This takes the pressure off our central midfielders and centre backs.

Doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me.

Why would we spend £10m+ on three players when one or two will be on the bench and we have other areas that drastically need improving.

It's pretty obvious and alluded to in the article. PVA first choice but we not happy waiting and will agree deal with Brady, who we also like, if Sunderland don't sell this week.

A really good post and you make a very good case for all 3. Another player who might be heading out is Cabaye as well as Townsend, so again having these three coming in

or maybe SA doesn't rate Puncheon (now going to the bunker and keep my head down.)

Do we really have that many other areas that need strengthening? We need a central midfielder, which will hopefully be resolved with M'Vila. If he comes in then we generally have cover for most positions.

If we just bring in a full back and left winger and Townsend leaves, then we have no decent cover for either position.

Good point. We dont really have cover in Puncheon's position, and osmeone like Brady would be excellent there

I don't think Puncheon is a BFS type player - doesn't help that we've not seen the best of him in ages
