I didn't hear anyone on the left claiming bias when Alan Yentob was director of the BBC for example. That worked out well didn't it.
It's OK for an Iranian Jew to control the flagship broadcaster of Britain but it's terrible when a Tory overseas one newspaper?

I could have used someone else, it really doesn't
matter.

I do not see how a newspaper could employ anyone without bias and it really isn't setting any sort of precedent.

For what it's worth I don't think you did imply that the fact he was an "Iranian Jew" meant he shouldn't get the job (although it was irrelevant to mention). I think it is fair to suggest Nick would have been less quick to post had it been a Corbynite appointed.

And you're right. A newspaper can't employ someone without bias.

But a sitting MP, especially one who already had more than one job and was making 7 figures without counting his very sizeable family income, should not be being employed as the chief editor of a newspaper. And yes I would say that irrespective of the political hue.

People will have their bias. But a sitting MP can't be expected to be properly critical of the party he represents.

Well clearly it is for you, as you brought it up that he was an Iranian Jew, he isn't he's British, and his parentage is of an Iraqi Jewish father.

There is bias, and then there is conflict of interest. No one should be in a position where a conflict of interest is involved. Arguably even if he resigned he was a member of the current government - That's not bias, that being directly compromised in terms of any objectivity.

Really?

What I'm saying is that there is all kinds of potential bias that can influence thinking by people in media jobs but Gusset predictably chose a Tory.
For the record, I don't give two f***s about Alan Yentob or his origins, but if the BBC had put Osama Bin Laden in charge of programming, Gusset would not have started a thread about it.
Anyone who read my post, without bias, would have understood the meaning.

Are you saying I shouldn't have started a thread on what is a major news story which calls into account the objectivity of mass media and the conflicts of interests inherent in having a serving mp editing a major paper?

Yes, and he's a politician, who has served in the current government taking a job in the fourth estate, which is supposed to hold government accountable. That is the very definition of a conflict of interest whilst he holds a position as an MP.

I'm saying that your motives for stating such a thread are party political at best and trolling at worst.

Only a schoolboy would believe that the press is not biased toward a particular brand of politics in order to attract it's target readers. Employing someone that conforms to that brand is therefore not surprising.
All you have done is draw attention to the bleedin' obvious.
And you would no doubt happily tell us that had it have been a Labour MP, you would have started a thread about that.
You might fool some of the folks on here but not this one.

And I'm sure that the Left leaning press with it's Left leaning employees will do that job nicely.
I would also imagine that the little twerp will not see eye to eye with the current administration on all matters. He might surprise you.

I thought you said the media are the liberal left?

Ha ha.

That is a rather uncharacteristically reductive interpretation of what I have previously said.

You seem to have your red tinted specs on today.

Are you claiming that I don't know the press is biased? That's up there with accusing me of being paid by labour to post on here.
*shakes head.
