Dear oh dear. What do you mean by 'fair'? Would it be fair that someone who has worked hard all their life and been responsible with their money in order to pass it on to their children has it all taxed by the government and largely squandered, whereas someone who has been irresponsible all their life receives all sorts of benefits paid from taxes because they are 'poor'?

I'd say a fairer system would be to tax the recipient not the estate.

But essentially for the beneficiary they have done literally nothing to earn it other than be a member of the lucky sperm club.

You were quite right in saying obesity costs the NHS a fortune and something should be done about it.
Why is it that when you walk down the high street the largest looking person male or female is ALWAYS eating the largest pie available or the biggest ice cream on sale. It looks pretty awful and it seems they just do not care.

Some have no self respect or respect for anything. Those outside Greggs I'm talking about, doing the sweep and brush of pastry flakes off their clothes.

To be frank... rather than messing round the edges. basic income tax needs to be raised by as much as 200bps.

Much going towards various ways of supporting the elderly, but also defence, NHS, etc. Oddly enough I would suggest not education.

Spot on it will come in the autumn statement I think unless there is an emergency before.

Consequences...

LBC has been full of disillusioned Tory voters today.

So you want funding switched from A&E maybe to caring for the elderly? Or would you prefer a rise in income tax that can disappear down the black hole of NHS waste?
This is not a perfect world. People with assets should pay for themselves and it's tough luck on their kids.
I'd also like to inherit my share but that is now at risk for many.

No. It was an exaggeration. I would suggest IHT isn't fair though at it's current level and especially with the increase in the 0% band for property up to £1m, which will only benefit a small proportion in the south east.

It's unearned income so should be taxed at a much higher rate than income and taxed on the recipient not the estate.

I'd suggest some could be tax free (say £50k per recipient or 100% if given to charities) but the rest should be taxed at 60/70/80/90/100%.

I will receive some inheritance at some point and I will be grateful for it, but I still don't think the current system is fair.

Income should be taxed at a lower rate than unearned wealth or capital gains. Just seems fair to me.

Your attitude makes no sense at all.

Inheritance money has already been taxed. Why should people pay an extortionate amount of tax to get what should be theirs?

Stop pretending 'fat free is good' while pumping sugar into everything as a taste substitute would be a start?
Once again, you've proven yourself to be not too bright.

Why stop at fatties?....I mean there is smokers, drunks, druggies, tramps, mentally ill, suicidal, the reckless.

Hell....Lets just allow 'normal' people to have 'free' healthcare.....Hell, it isn't as though the NHS was always meant to be for the nation.

Seriously guys.....Sometimes you just have to put up with s*** for the greater good because otherwise you commit something far worse.

Once again, you've proven yourself to be not too bright.

The human body is designed to survive. It craves fat and sugar. In a world where high calorie food is constantly available and people do less activity, this is bound to present a problem.
The individual has to make sensible choices and control their natural urge to eat.
There are potential health problems with fat and sugar but calories are calories and people need to eat less of them to manage their body fat levels.

How is it theirs. It belongs to whoever gave it to them. That's like saying companies should pay no tax as their income comes from consumers who have already paid income tax.

My point is the recipient and beneficiary has paid no tax. And not earned it!
