Statistically wise it's highly unlikely although I accept not impossible that they would be an Oxford student studying medicine with a view to becoming a surgeon. That's a fact no matter how unpalatable. Justice should be justice, God knows what the victim of this attack makes of all this however class and social status and academic ability clearly has a bearing otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation

It's good to see that ultimately we are on the same page.

It's true that due to the luck of where you are born and who to that your percentages of being 'successful' in life are either increased or decreased quite significantly... That's just reality.

I would hope however that justice was blind to this.

Personally I don't care if she has prospects of being a surgeon or fish monger. She cut someone up so she should receive the same consequences that come with that for anybody....Obviously the facts of the case may influence this or that....But her social class and prospects shouldn't.

The cream does often rise to the top despite the system sometimes......The middle classes can't quite cream off all the top jobs in some professions and block the working class where talent is the deciding factor...stand up comedians for example....You are either funny or you aren't...No qualification or school tie is going to help you.

But whether she is locked up or not doesn't affect whether she has a conviction surely? She has been found guilty (or plead guilty) so her career is surely already at the "almost impossible" stage. So whether she goes to prison or not should be irrelevant to that.

I think a jail term is a longer "spent" conviction. Usually employers asking if you have any "unspent" convictions but typically you don't have to disclose it otherwise, some employers may ask regardless though.
