FDB has been suggested to have been SP's 1st choice target for our replacement manager all along. I am sure we will all know the full story shortly.

I really like the fact that once again SP and Palace work extremely hard and succeed in conducting business privately and on their own terms.
Leaving the press, media and bookies to just run around like headless chickens filling space with complete verbiage (just like the Marco Silva story)

However the whole process does appear to have been a lengthy in terms of time but there may also be valid reasons for this?
Also some posters on Hol clearly expected a manager to be installed almost instantly and then after only a week without went into meltdown mode!

the usual bellendery you get on here , really annoying

Isn't everyone getting a bit carried away, de Boar has reportedly been offered the job. Parish being on holiday is supposedly holding up an announcement he has accepted, but not being offered the job, doesn't add up.
The old adage of believing nothing until you see a photo of him holding the Palace shirt at a press conference, is the only time you can be sure.

That's incredibly harsh. Our promotion season he was double teamed a lot. Allowing space for others, especially Bolaise to exploit.

Looking just a stats can be misleading.

I get your point, although Everton, Southampton, Swansea and Bournemouth (to an extent) have all bought talent in from the academy (albeit some purchased from lower league team.) If the will is there it can be done.

Didn't do a lot for Cardiff and when he came back there was no end product. We were scoring about 40 a season with Zaha assisting about 3.

My point however is that if we had a Zaha now, he wouldn't be a Zaha because he wouldn't get that championship learning. You get there by playing. A player at the level from 2010 and about 4+ years after wouldn't get in. Sad but true. It's the system, not the player that's at fault.

He could earn his stripes out on loan but I think we know he likes to feel at home. Must take more character than we appreciate, having to be loaned out here there and everywhere.

Absolutely. I read this morning that personal terms and support staff remain to be agreed, but are not anticipated to be a problem; let's hope that's correct. I also read separately that Parish is sailing in the Med.

Looks like everything is proceeding quickly now:

do you remember a 3-3 draw at Selhurst back in the 74-75 season in div 3 when the green army had about 2000 in the old Whitehorse and three argyle fans ran on the pitch at half time one with a leather jacket and a green and white striped scarf and dribbled the ball up to the Holmesdale end to all round booing before booting the ball into the goal at the Holmesdale end? us in our second season in red and blue stripes and Plymouth (with rafferty and mariner, and maybe david kemp?) in green and white stripes. interesting that argyle, Bristol rovers and Cardiff used to bring a big mob of nutters with them - nice that Cardiff have got up to the level the size of the club deserves, be nice to see the other two clubs yo-yoing between champ and league 1 rather than slumming it in league 2 - proper big city clubs with hard core fans.

I remember it very clearly. I even have a recollection that the ball the Argyle nutters dribbled upfield was punctured and a bit on the small side. I guess that enabled them to smuggle it in. By co-incidence I went to two Plymouth away games in two weeks, because the week after the division 3 game at Selhurst, they played in the 1st round of the FA Cup at my then local team Dartford FC, where they nicked it 3-2 with 2 very late goals. THEN I saw them again three weeks later in Plymouth when sadly they beat us in the 2nd round of the cup. I finally got my revenge in the division 3 away game in February when Dave Swindlehurst gave us an unexpected 1-0 win. I wasn't in the away section, so (aged 15) I thought it best not to celebrate!!

Anyway...Frank de Boer - bring it on!!

I was just using stats to make the point. For 18 months Zaha didn't really do anything. Then for 6 months in a cr@p side under Pardew after MacArthur and Yala got injured he stood out. Then for a full season he was exceptional.

If we got to the prem without him and he came through now he wouldn't play and would have to go out on loan for about 4 years. Would he have the mental strength that requires and temperament to get through that?

We aren't suddenly going to attract the best of south London's youth talent. The ones we do currently have aren't suddenly going to become better than those Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs have scooped up (I think there is an opportunity if we get them instead of them. Keiron Gibbs, Robinsonson etc).

Even the press have said the strategy might rather be buying early 20s European talent or players that haven't made it at big clubs, whether they were bought for millions or academy graduates who've played but haven't held down a place. Again this is what I was referring to in that the big clubs attract the best youth and then they fail because the development at first team stage is underrated. It does require perseverance and the pressure to finish top 4 or whatever is too risky financially.

De Boer changing our academy round in his tenure is a pipe dream and some would do well to realise it. He can set it in motion though. The best way we can turn it round is so the best around choose us over Arsenal or Chelsea. So for us to have success with that 10 year old is 10 years away + the time it takes to get the academy to the level a boy would choose us over them. Us being a stable prem club would help, Chelsea etc paying bribes doesn't.

Anyone who thinks within Frank's stay he's going to change the academy around, he can't. It'll take a long time to get prem graduates who'll make it in prem football.

I have to agree with you about too much garbage being posted on this thread so stop posting all the garbage you do. My offer of a Hol meet up is still on but you tend to ignore it but then you would being a keyboard warrior. As for thickos on here you are number 1 sunshine.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

Presumably we'd need to achieve Category One status as well.

Plymouth finished 2nd last season - marvellous achievement particularly as many players from the previous season left and manager Derek Adams had to re-build his squad.Terrific stuff.

One of the players who remained from the previous season was Graham Carey and he was playing at a level below his qualities.Very good left-foot and scores goals.
Adams who signed him on a 'Free' from Ross Co also managed him at the Scottish club.

Got to love the positivity on HOL....

Frank de Boer and possibly Bergkamp in toe.

Is absolutely going to help ramp up our academy. It will be a vast lure to young talent to come a play for us, knowing the manager wants to teach and promote youth.

No way it's not a huge positive and a blinding appointment by Parish and co.

How how how can I still be reading negative posts.

You people must be really miserable.

I'm so excited by this impinge how the kids will feel if Bergkamp forms part of the coaching staff as well.

Huge tentacles in to the Dutch leagues, massive global appeal. This appointment has absolutely helped every aspect of our club moving forward.

Anyone who wants to bang on about nothing will be instant.. ofcourse it won't but come on Frank de Boer or Dyche.... ?

I'm dancing in my living room the more I think about ALL of the upsides.

Yep. There is also the opportunity to buy top talent at 16 you hear about. But then their development wouldn't be mainly academy, or our academy. Definitely to be considered. Or just hang around outside Cobham training ground every summer release date and invite them down to ours for a long trial. Or scout their umpteen players out on loan. Doing a lot of that kind of thing might make up for the lost time not developing he academy, as well as buying a 16 year old from a league 1 club.
