The short version:

- Dutch teams don't know how to defend
- Dutch managers don't know how to get their teams to defend and can't be bothered to
- De Boer will try and do 'total football', it's the only thing he knows
- Which works if you're Ajax in a league full of micky mouse Dutch outfits, but good luck as one of the lower league prem teams.

Martin Jol finished 5th twice with Spurs & Koeman seems to be doing just fine.

Guardiola & Juande Ramos are both Spanish yet totally different in style/success..........ditto Wenger & Jacques Santini both French, Ardilles & Pochettino both Argentinian etc......

I think it's too simplistic to assume all managers from the same country are somehow the same just because of their nationality.

Seriously, does anyone in the club give a toss what we write on HOL, positive or negative? As someone else pointed out, negative opinions are part of being a footbal club supporter (including England...) and long predates the internet. I can remember whole matches with the crowd 'encouraging' Tommy Langley, Tony Cottee and later donkeys with some choice advice from the terraces...

I would actually argue englands greatest issue is the negative press and support it gets and the huge pressure that's created over years and years of build up. Negative vibes certainly hasn't helped England win anything. Debate if you want if you think it hasn't had any impact but I'd say it has hugely.

So yes I think it matters the attitude and mood of the fans transcends and translates on to the pitch.

Leicester went on a crazy run part of which would have been self created within the positivity of the city and fans, they'd never have got over the line with negativeity.

Call it mumbo jumbo if you will but many studies have proven that positivity breads success...

I'm super happy with this appointment and assume 99% of fans will be too.

COYP !!!

Lombardo was very much a stop gap because of the circumstances

Then how come we have one of the most vocal and positive fan bases at Selhurst Park but one of the worst home records

I agree the press is a disgrace in its reaction to the national team's 'failures' - but surely the greatest pressure is the manic and hopelessly unrealistic build-up to qualifiers etc both in the press and TV - surely it is this that creates the outpourings of bile in the aftermath?

I would not call positivity 'mumbo jumbo' (just quoting, not Willo-ing..) but positivity without a sense of realism becomes messaianistic hence my reference to Mao. I'me very happy with the (potential) appointment of de Boer, but there have been odd hints about changing style to a modern version of total football (I believe we tried that twice - Burley, Freedman - which would undo all the solid work of Pulis and Allardyce. We have survived on good defence and fast breakaways and that is what we are currently best at. Hopefully we can build on that and not restructure yet again?

It also sounds like an advert for a crap self-help book; "Think Yourself Successful: Conquer the Premier League in Just Three Months". Cheer the team on when you're there, but other than that it doesn't make a blind bit of difference what any of us think.

Jordan spoke about Silva over Frank as Frank only really has Dutch league experience.

If you are a good coach with excellent man management skills and tactical acumen does it really matter which league you have experience in?

Chelsea and Manchester City occupied two of the top three spots with new managers that hadn't managed in the Premier League before and Liverpool were fourth with another coach who no previous English management experience.

In fact all of the top seven clubs had foreign managers who had no prior experience of English football so I'm not sure that anyone who claims that FDB might have a problem with his lack of coaching in the country are right

Because we had a shocking manager.

Sam had turned our home form around by the end of the season.

Last seven home games: Wins against Middlesbrough, Arsenal, Hull, Watford, drew with Leicester. More work to be done but I'd say our home form was massively improving.

Our fans are amazing and definitely a 12 man.

Let's get right behind the team and new management and push for a great start.

No reason we shouldn't be aiming for three wins at the start of the season.

Huddersfield H
Liverpool A
Burnley H

Top of the table in August please.

Agreed. I've always maintained that it's this type of Palace fans mentality that helps hold the club back. A victim mentality.

It's a forum for discussion. If some views are seen as being negative and get slapped down that's the end of any discussion, which is by far the most negative thing about HOL!

Cynic or realist? It's a fine line!

Completely agree.

FdB brought through players like Toby Alderweireld, Daley Blind, and Jasper Cillessen through. He's pro a solid defence and likes his wingers to break. He really should be a good fit.
