Looks like this impeachment sham is going to be thrown out.

The Democrats are....how shall we say....just not very good.

The impeachment is no sham.

Even the Republican Senators know Trump did what he is accused of doing. As one said before deciding not to vote to call witnesses "he might have behaved inappropriately but not at a level to justify his removal from office".

Whilst I disagree with that assessment it is at least a respectable conclusion. What is not, and could never be, is his obvious guilt over the second charge of interfering in the rights of Congress. By letting him off the hook on this the Republicans open the door for any future President to avoid any kind of Congressional oversight simply by instructing their staff to ignore subpoenas. That's a big step towards a dictatorship.

I have had the company over recent days of an American couple from California on their first ever trip to the UK. The guy describes himself as an independent who voted for Trump as the best of two bad choices. When I questioned why he was so against Clinton he trotted out all the propaganda that was mounted against her back in 2016. Propaganda that was debunked many times but he still believes as gospel truth. It shows just how effective the conspiracy theories and disinformation campaigns proved to be.

He sees all of Trump's faults and would willingly vote against him, although he is a conservative type through and through. What will make his decision is not Trump but who the Democrats put up. If they choose anyone who can be attacked as having a "leftish" agenda then he would vote Trump again, despite his huge misgivings. That's before the right starting cooking up their character assassinations.

I found this quite reassuring as it matches my own analysis very closely, although I would have never voted for Trump in the first place.

Let's see who the Dems choose. The impeachment has probably scuttled Biden's chances. Unfairly of course but anything involving Trump won't ever be fair. Win at all costs is his by word, and hang the consequences.

Oh that propaganda that was shredded and deleted.
Whereby an overheard phone call cost the US taxpayer how much ? Not seen so much character assassination as against trump so glass houses and all.
Trump has more support now and will have enough to win again.
Suck it up WE
You lost brexit, the election over here and a soon to be lovely treble with trump.

The guy who pushed the Russia stuff on here and who talks about a possible dictatorship within the current US system wants to reference other people believing in conspiracy theories.

Those matters have been explained many times and were always only ever diversions from the real propaganda material being spread by Russia and right wing sources in the USA about Clinton.

That "overheard phone call" was backed up by lots of other evidence from people whose integrity is beyond reproach. Bolton has the direct evidence, but they refused to hear him.

Trump has more support now and will have enough to win again.

That is simply untrue. His approve/disapprove ratio has almost flatlined for the past year, with the odd bump down when he tries something really stupid. There is about a 10 point gap with disapprove at 54% and approve at 44%. It all depends on who he faces and how successful the undoubted character assassination is.

Nothing for me to "suck up"! Brexit is obviously happening but the campaign to re-enter is already underway, which will gather momentum as the expectations get shown to be just empty promises and the threat of the break up of the UK becomes more real. There is too much to do than sit crying over the stupidity of Brexit. There's nothing to gain in feeling sorry about it and everything to gain in preparing the arguments to reverse it.

I expect the next Democratic President to ensure that the US constitution is clarified so that no future President can interfere with the rights of Congress to subpoena such witnesses as they deem necessary to conduct the oversight demanded by the Constitution.

I think they will recognise the threat that now exists, and will take those steps to ensure that no President, of whatever hue, could act like the dictator Trump seems to believe he ought to be.

Therefore I don't fear the USA will ever be ruled by a dictator because their system will deal with it.

No conspiracy involved. Just a belief in the power of democracy eventually triumphing over those who would subvert it.

Re entry into the EU may happen going forwards.
No one has argued that point, may not be what people want but I'm sure a referendum will be held and our elected representatives will decide the best for us.
If going back in wins on your very own logic it shouldn't be a given that we do.
The fly in it though is about our role in europe and if it is better to be back in.
If we do re enter I'm pretty sure that it will be on terms suitable for what is best for us as a nation; not what the bullies want to give us.
I will say again cameron called their bluff and they gone done f***ed up by not budging.
Now they are billions out of pocket.
That could be fatal for them as a union so it may not even be around as a 'thing' to re enter.

When you add in his impeachment "defence", and what looks to me like a very strong case against him, I rather think there is a whole heap of bias in the minds of the Republican Senators who seemingly have already dismissed the case.

Trump cleared on both accounts

It’ll be interesting now having it explained how this impeachment never had a chance of going through from the same people who were desperate for it to happen.

Cleared?

Most certainly not.

He was given a free pass by the politically corrupt Republican Senators. Only Romney had the balls to do his constitutional duty and judge with impartiality.

That won't stop Trump claiming, as he did with Mueller, that he has been "exonerated" and the sheep in his base believing him.

Those who have actually followed the details of both events know better. This is naked politics. If it was a court of law in which the facts and the facts alone determined the outcome I would wager a sizable sum that the result would be very different.

So "cleared"! Not unless whitewash is clear.

Well that’s politics. You’ve told us often enough that “they” know best. They are there to make decisions for everyone else.
