Makes ya sick though, no?

To a certain extent it does....though, it's a market forces argument.

But yeah...it is a problem within capitalism.

Abolish the BBC - for all sorts of reasons.

In reality, is it any worse than some barely literate 20 year old footballer not only being paid millions per annum to kick a bag of wind about, but also picking up huge payments from his cut of any transfers his agent arranges as well.

Both lots provide the level of entertainment demanded by their masters/audience, and usually for a limited period.

Not good, I agree, but then life never has been fair.

I do not see what the big deal is it was fine until the info was leaked now these women are moaning.

this sort of system you deal the salary so it's their fault they do not have better deals also it about what the marekt value is on them.

Hollywood is the same men and women are not all paid the same.

If this had been the other way around women top earners you wouldn't be getting all this I am getting sick of women thinking they have the right to everything the same if not better then men without any true merit.

I'm definitely not going to defend the salaries of top footballers. Those are even more obscene regardless of the short career....I don't accept the 'short career' argument anyway. No one makes them choose the career and while I agree with a good wage what the top footballers get paid is unjustifiable to anyone other than the purest capitalist. Many sport careers are short and don't come with that money.

I agree life isn't fair....and I'm not seeking to make it fair....though trying for fairer where you aren't fecking things up isn't a terrible way to live your life.

Our society does accept the principle of meritocracy.....and alone with proportionality that should limit the size difference of wages.

However we know this doesn't happen because it's all left to the market. I'm loathe to criticise the market because I know that a free market solves many ills that would result otherwise.

However sometimes the free market sucks.....and this area is one of them.

I agree up to an extent.

Those who push for pay equality in a job where you have a 'market value' are disfiguring the market and hence are essentially going to lose out to their competitors.

However......Should the BBC be competing in that market? I think there is an argument for a smaller more public service radio and news focused BBC which isn't trying to 'entertain'.....It's pretty crap at that anyway.

I disagree with these women being paid more if they don't put bums on sofas...I'm certainly not impressed by most of them....However I highly question whether most of these men are doing much more either.....I think where you have radio shows with easily discernible ratings like Chris Evans or TV ratings where the reasons for popularity really are obvious....like Top Gear or Ant & Dec rubbish...then wage differences are not only justifiable but rational.

Some unfair comparisons, footballers are worth what they are paid (in most cases) to their clubs because of the amount of money in the game and the potential rewards, the good ole greedy bankers are rewarded in relation to the value they bring in to their company albeit obscene in some cases, Hollywood actors and actresses are usually paid per movie based on what has grossed at the box office

In the BBC case people are forced to subscribe which is very outdated in this day and age and they should compete on the same platform as commercial broadcasters, then presenters pay would naturally fall into line with their worth

Agree ... we'd be lost without it. Abolition would be the end of another national treasure. However, government would love to offload it to save money and possibly deflect some investigative criticism. The licence fee collected probably does not fully cover BBC admin costs. Also, bear in mind timing the release of this type of info controlled by the centre - government is knee deep in other $hite so anything mildly controversial to deflect public attention is very welcome while Whitehall and Parliament break up for their summer hols!
