While I agree Giroud would be a great signing in our system we could only really play one or the other.
There is no way Giroud would come to Palace to play second fiddle to Benteke. On the flip side, you don't pay £27m for a player that's going to sit on the bench.
Needs to be less of a name, MUCH less of an ego

I think we're waiting for the end of the transfer window in the hope teams desperate to get rid of unwanted Strikers become cheaper on the final days.

It will work if Benteke is definitely our number 1 but it's a risky tactic because the transfer window runs over the start of the season.

If we're waiting on Stokes' 3rd choice striker for example, on the final day we'll pick him up for peanuts.

If Benteke limps off at Huddersfield on the opening day with ligament damage then the likes of Arsenal are going to absolutely pull our pants down over someone like Giroud.

If Benteke is out for any significant length of time then everyone is going to play hardball with us so much to get a striker in before the window.

Dare I say it was actually dangerous to let Frasier Campbell go? Arguably so without getting backup but then again if Benteke got injured and we started Campbell would we score any goals anyway?

It's a balancing act I hope we've got right.

it's a tough sell. they'll know they are only going to be a 'back up striker' but i agree we need something! a fit remy would have been sound but unfortunately he's made of glass.

I think if the striker is half-decent and not someone definitely not good enough e.g. Campbell, Adebeyor, Ladapo, then we can guarantee them a lot of game time.

That's the difficult thing with only one good striker, he even has to play the league cup games. We don't want to throw away cup competitions but it would be nice to know someone can definitely put it in the net even if they're overall game isn't good enough to start every week (Gayle if he fancied being second-string).

Not Giroud but that Perez chap might fancy getting a lot of time for us. And I don't think it's written in stone to say Benteke will start good form or bad.

I think it's madness for a club our size not to pay 16mil for Javier Hernandez. We could have said you start every single cup game, minimum last 20 minutes of every Prem game and as soon as Benteke runs into a dry-spell you can start over him.

He would have transformed us IMO.

I'm now wondering how Dwight Gayle would have fit into our new 343?

I've always wondered how we could fit Dwight into our system. Good player and wish we hadn't sold him.

Well....excellent finisher....Good foil to Benteke's aerial strength.

I don't think it will happen but I think a perfect backup forward that could also play winger for us would be Jordan Morris from the United States. He gives 110% every match, has great pace, would be relatively cheap and would be hungry to prove himself in a league like the premier league.

Maybe it's just me but I think we need to concentrate on recruiting a quality striker, if Benteke gets injured we are well short in this department. Not sure when Wickham will be back and I'm sure we can't rely on him with his recent record!!

Since CPFC seem to have had good fortune with Top class outcasts from bigger clubs. I suggest we might be able to get ' Samir Nasri ', on a Free Transfer or even a 1yr loan from Man City Since He is unlikely to be played there ever. He is 30 but strong on the ball and a playmaker who could cover for Townsend and Tekkers, imho, FEW CAN REPLACE WILF. However going by his Stat figures, I expect he could keep it up well and will be hungry to score till Tekkers, Townsend or Wilfs back.

Just my 2pence worth COYP
