They have most ticket holders' mobile numbers so if they need to warn them they give them a friendly phone call to calm it down. Seems to work apparently. But then there's bald, 50 year old Chelsea fans in replica where 3 points mean more than life at home. Points earned by players that care about playing for them because they can earn more there. If you showed them their behaviour they wouldn't be embarrassed. There's an app at Cardiff and Millwall and places where you can inform security of bad behaviour. That's not being used much. I don't think it will for a long time. Loyalty to your own etc etc. I agree that words are not violence. Absurd. I appreciate people want to protect minorities or the vulnerable but people should always be allowed an opinion. I think a big problem comes from the fact that the only people that pay any attention to the "don't be racist/sexist/homophobic" instructions we regularly hear, are people that weren't in the first place. At least not in the context of being the true target for those directives. The truly racist, sexist and homophobic people either don't hear these messages or chose not to. So that leaves a bunch of people who never intended to discriminate being constantly reminded not to discriminate. That can lead to feelings of resentment and that they are being thought policed. There's no answer to this by the way, it's just my observation.

Can't beat a bit of evidence based analysis Apparatus: Me with a nasty mouth Method: Found a frail 85 year old to direct expletives at. Conclusion: You can make an old person cry and shake and feel absolutely terrorised using just words and make them feel ill with worry for months after. But they were just words so no big deal. At least i didn't use violence. And apologies to Willo.

I've always liked the quote "Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right". I think that's a very concise way to put it. Of course, it doesn't mean you're not right either, it's just the assumption a few people like to make.

Ignoring any freedom of speech/opinion/censorship argument, we're all supposed to be Palace fans. We're supposed to be one, a family and our loyalty is to the team. We all joined this site because this club is important to us. Singing a homophobic song might be 'aimed' at Brighton and Hove Albion and not directly at the LBGT community as some have said, but as has been voiced on here it can still make Palace fans uncomfortable, while heterosexual Brighton fans probably don't care at all other than using it as a stick to beat us with. So why on earth should we persist with something that can cause more pain and upset to our own, whilst giving fuel to the opposition?
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |
