Wake up call for both FDB and Parish. FDB with no experience of the English Premier League wants us to play the unsuited Ajax style. I am angry not because we lost but because the manner we got thrashed by a newly promoted team. There was so much hype on Riedewald. Yesterday he was no better any of our previous back four.

What i cant work out he plays Luka at the back in all four warm up games and Townsend at wingback also then changes it for the 1st real game. Odd

Passing from the back can only work if your keeper is up to it and the opposition let you. Pep found out last season and all the teams got practise against it. FdB needs to learn from this 1st game that teams don't stand off in England like in Europe.

and yet the most embarrassing thing for me is the knee-jerk reaction of a lot of posters on here. Have a vocal part of our support become Chelsea-esque fans ? Grow a pair, it's a long season

Until we have the players to play with three a the back don't do it. Either sign a load of players now or go back to 442. We play that formation for the next 5 games we'll effectively be giving every other team in the league a 5 game head start. All three goals the marking was nowhere and our finishing was terrible.

Can't really fault the players for yesterdays result. We know they have limited ability. There were so many times when Dann had the ball looking very uncomfortable and had no support. We need 4 at the back and cover from Luca to be remotely solid. Our strength is our wingers and our target men. It's clear to pretty much everyone that we should play 4-3-3/4-5-1. I've not seen it myself as I can't bare to watch that rubbish again, but apparently on match of the day there were clips of FDB shouting out instructions and Speroni shaking his head behind him. The new system doesn't work and it appears we've waisted all or pre season trying it out. Hopefully FDB is a faster learner than Pardew, from his post match comments I'm not sure. I'm still annoyed I wasted my Saturday on that crap.

All worrying signs if we are not to find replacements. However as bad as some of these things were equally appalling were fans jeering and booing when the game was in the balance when players played a ball back or played it short, only to then jeer Hennessy when he did kick it long. Hardly going to fill an already jittery bunch of players with confidence. Yes it was not good, yes a lot of things need to change, yes it was a concerning display, yet we need to support not create more anxiety so early on in the game/season.
