Word is that Milo's "s***show" (the co-organiser's description, not mine) of an event at Berkeley is going to be cancelled. [Link]

A number of the announced speakers had no idea they were being proposed for the event, others (like Bannon and Coulter) had never confirmed their appearance, and the organisers failed to provide the university with the necessary paperwork for it to block out space and provide security.

Milo has been drip-feeding comments all week leading up to cancellation, which he is expected to announce tomorrow - blaming UC Berkeley for the whole mess in the process.

Probably worth listening to his explanation of it if you're that interested. It appears to have been sabotaged from the start, and he backs his version of events up with proof:

1. Well, Berkeley shut down Milo in February.

2. Where do you get your information that Milo has cancelled this event?....I'm not sure what the significance of the number of speakers is.

3. Posters currently up on Berkeley campus.

1. Yes they did, because agitators riled up the crowd and there was a serious danger to people and property. That's why they require to know the who, what, where and when of proposed events so they can plan security accordingly. Milo failed to come even close to complying with the security paperwork.

2. Milo hasn't cancelled. My original post linked to an article (that you seemed to have read) that reports from sources close to the event that he will cancel; tomorrow. Part of the reason being that many of the headline "gets" either aren't confirmed or have said they aren't coming, with some saying they were never asked. The report said that Berkeley had received security paperwork on only 4 speakers for the multi-day event.

3. I believe they call that free speech. You may have heard of it.

Ah, the truth.....so inconvenient for some.

There are ethical people on the left and there are ethical people on the right....and then there are the rest.

So Milo's version is automatically the truth?

1. Watch the video.

2. Watch the video.

3. No problem with free speech. Even your madness has a right to be heard....But the right isn't closing down progressive speech and if it was I wouldn't support it.

Oh I believe in free speech mate. It's people like you who I worry about.

Watched the video yet?

You pushing the idea that somehow the Berkeley conservative organization who before had previously arranged for many conservative speakers to speak....now apparently are incapable this time..? It's almost absurd. This tactic from Berkeley to frustrate and use any excuse it can to close down speakers who annoy their students has been identified time and time again.

Or do you seriously think that Milo somehow doesn't want to speak at Berkeley? They have to pay through the nose and in that video show that they had paid.

Milo has email evidence backing up what he says.

Like I say.....there are ethical people on the left and there are ethical people on the right....and then there is everyone else.

Is Milo making comments about paedophilia being good ethical?

I ask you once again, please stop interacting with me.

After calling me a Nazi, then a Nazi sympathizer and then suggesting that it was reasonable to believe that I treat white students better in my class than non whites I've asked you to stop interacting with me.

As for Milo himself I probably agree with about fifty percent of what he says.

I laugh at about another twenty.

This isn't about whether anyone agrees with Milo or any of the speakers. It's about free speech.

IT is about free speech. Which, earlier, you agreed should not have been afforded to a legal political party in Sein Fein back in the eighties.

Good to know how strongly you feel about it and don't contradict yourself in any way, no sireee.

That's unethical Kermy.

I'm not stopping Nick's free speech. I'm asking him to stop replying to me. That's like saying you can't ask someone who lies about you to stop interacting with you. Nick is free to communicate with those who want to hear him. I wouldn't support taking his free speech away.

No one stopped Sein Fein's free speech either. All the government did was stop their audio being broadcast nationally on TV because they supported violence. They were still interviewed and still shown and allowed to get their message across. If you are an organisation supporting the murder of citizens that's a reasonable course of action....It didn't even apply during elections.

They were not stopped from speaking to their supporters at events and I wouldn't have supported that.

That is what is happening in Berkeley.
