Jesus!
We really need Palace to win a game soon.

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.

Ok. Odd but interesting. I'll need to think that one through.

Good, we don't want any knee-jerk reactions.

Meanwhile, Milo's charity work for children absolves his support of pederasty.

You might want to check under your skirt as your agenda is slipping.

It's just another sign of how low people can go and still maintain allegiance based on shared politics. And yet a few black blokes take a knee for something they hold dear after teammates were called sons of bitches by their own president and it's the end of the world.

They're taking something, not sure it's a knee though.

Black crime is hugely disproportionate to the population.
You wouldn't have the balls to be a cop putting their life at risk so your observations are of no interest.

Using a sporting event to protest is questionable to say the least, especially when it disrespects the national anthem. I think the booing from the crowd says how much support it has from the majority.

Black people in America are disproportionately poor. The poor in America are disproportionately likely to be involved in crime, either as perpetrator or victim. There is no notable difference between crime rates for poor whites as for poor blacks.

The issue isn't race, the issue is poverty. [Link]

As for the venue for the protest, the whole point of protesting is to do it in a place where it garners the most attention. For example, when right-wingers from all over the US wanted to protest the perceived erasure of their heritage, they didn't do it in their own homes or even home towns. They descended en masse upon a small town in Virginia and caused a bit of an uproar by carrying Nazi flags, chanting Nazi slogans, throwing Nazi salutes and killing one person while injuring a number of other by driving a car into a crowd.

Against that, taking a knee during a song doesn't seem so extreme, does it?

Poverty? In the country you say you live in because of the high standard of living?

There's a point there that you're ignoring because it pouts your racist argument to the sword.

As I said: hilarious.

First you take the time you tell me that I believe 'words are violence' and that you're 'quite sure I said it' even though I didn't, so it's fine to 'speak for others' with your own fantasyland comments.

That's how I remember it yes.

When I was defending free speech at actual free speech rallies you were one of those arguing with me about it.

Maybe, if I can be bothered later I'll go back and look at what you said in that thread. I remember you became more reasonable later on in the thread....but perhaps I'll look.

Now when I post:

"Unfortunately many of those who claim to be interested in 'freedom or speech or expression' aren't in the slightest. They are interested in what they perceive to be 'their freedoms' being taken away and not one bit about a structure that contained views and forms of expression that they both agree and disagree with."

which is self evident true by the way, suddenly I'm 'talking rubbish' and 'don't speak for others'. My god, you want to tell black players when is appropriate for them to protest - no such requirement stated by you in charlottesville ironically, i'm 'quite sure' of that - and now people are chastised and told not to say certain things.

'Don't speak for others'? Give me strength. If I want to state an opinion I'll state it. You keep your faux freedom of speech and expression outlook and I'll actually defend the real thing across the board.

Edited by wordup (26 Sep 2017 2.50pm)

You are talking rubbish when you put forward the opinion that you know mine and perhaps other's motivations. That's fine for me to say. You have your opinion and that's mine.

I can't help it that you take 'don't speak for others' literally as if I'm trying to stop your freedom of speech. I'm not....I'm criticising you for doing it. There is a massive difference between the two.

As for 'black players', this relates to the 'white' and whatever else players who have also done this.

I don't believe sport and politics should mix for the reasons stated. How hardcore am I about that? It isn't a hill I'd die on no....but It's bad for business and divisive for sure. As for banning people...I see the sense in what Fifa and the Olympics do....but I'm automatically opposed to banning most things...It's something I'm glad I don't have to decide upon. Everyone should be allowed freedom of speech. By the same token practical considerations for when and where that speech is appropriate also matter too.

Both matter.

What's with the stuff on their faces? Is it part of the 'protest'?

I doubt it.

Well Kaepernick - as the poster child for this protest - is out of a job while a dozen less talented QBs have starting roles on NFL teams. So there's one.

The point of this weekend being that the various symbolic actions of hundreds of players - and an owner or two - means that no one else is getting ostracised over this.
