Mass shootings are defined as those resulting in 4 or more deaths (including the shooter). By that measure, we have one a day.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Nope. You need to at the net effect of guns on the streets in the hands of both good and bad guys (and toddlers, who account for circa 50 deaths a year). You don't want to, because it blows up your argument more comprehensively than Trump's big button.

No, you just 'straw-manned' as it's a separate argument. The original point was about allowing licenced carry holders on school grounds as it would more likely SAVE lives, and lots of evidence (and common sense) indicates this.

It really is a shocking state of affairs that arming some teachers is seen as a viable solution.

You make the idea of carrying guns on Primary School premises seem rational and normal. How fvcked up a country must be for that way of thinking to evolve and be taken seriously.

I mean it's not like armed uniformed officials in the U.S are known to kill the wrong and innocent people, is it?

"Cop kills kid who was holding a crayon thinking it was a gun" - "Again"

And how many of these armed guards around 7 years olds will have mental health issues, i wonder?

All secondary schools in London are to be offered knife detectors to check pupils for weapons as part of a major crackdown on growing knife crime in the capital. Secondary schools across the city are being invited to apply for a metal detecting “wand” to screen students. In addition every school will get its own “safer schools” police officer as part of a package of measures announced by London’s mayor.

For the US It might be better than the alternative......It's all about calculating risk.

Visiting primary schools for my boy to start in September....saw an excellent school today, but the main playground is overlooked by two streets of houses.

There's risk in everything.

School I worked at for years in Woolwich overlooked where Lee Rigby was killed. (I'd left by then, but an old colleague had been bringing her class back from swimming lessons)

I suppose in life there's a certain amount of crossing your fingers.

A relative who married into the Stirling (Belfast) line told me that he was playing in an army band at the bandstand in Regent's Park the day before the Green Jacket's band was blown up.

No one remains in jail from that IRA scum but our boys aren't coming back.

Yep, released as political prisoners as part of the peace bought about by the good Friday agreement that is in peril from Brexit.

Spare me the hyperbole and anti-US sentiment and go back to the specific point about the new California law which states school employees with concealed carry gun permits are no longer allowed on school property.

It's stupid and virtue signalling. If there were metal detectors screening guns on entering campus, then nobody with a gun can enter (without force). That would be fine. However, the people with permits now won't carry on campus to adhere with the law. But a mass shooter can enter campus knowing that he can fire off rounds and nobody can do anything to stop him until the cops eventually arrive. How many extra dead bodies could that end up being? You'd rather more dead bodies so you can stand on your anti-gun high horse. Rightly or wrongly, guns will always be in the US, get used to it.
