Of course the primary reason why the EU never really saw fit to see countries leaving, is that most of the EU power houses, have historic land borders and very close relations with each other, and have had very little in terms of border controls. Cross border traffic and inter-relationships make those nations very blurred - and there is a long tradition of cross border immigration for work and settlement - in a way that's more akin to the relationship between England, Scotland and Ireland. Dunno, its pretty nice. Of course then I haven't visited the equivalent of Catford and Sunderland either.

Of course the primary reason why the EU never really saw fit to see countries leaving, is that most of the EU power houses, have historic land borders and very close relations with each other, and have had very little in terms of border controls. Cross border traffic and inter-relationships make those nations very blurred - and there is a long tradition of cross border immigration for work and settlement - in a way that's more akin to the relationship between England, Scotland and Ireland.
