There used to be an unwritten rule on daily rates in London (and a slightly lower figure out of London) for all the different trades but this went out the window with cheap labour from abroad. I'd like to get back to this system as it will also encourage kids to get into the trades.

I am no fan of illegal immigrants and recognise that amongst them will be some spectacularly nasty people But to indicate that big corporates welcome illegal immigration is just incredibly dumb.
