There's a story today that Migrants at Marston are complaining that Home Office contractors have been trying to sell them drugs.

As one Albanian put it "It's disgusting, that's our job"

There's probably only a very slim margin for selling them on because the market is saturated. NE Kent has a dearth of drug dealers. It's the biggest growth industry hereabouts these days along with illegal immigration and lorry parking on the M20. But nobody cares or has done anything about it.

Certainly the BBC rates highly, along with Channel 4.

Of the news media I read the Times and Sunday Times more than others, but also respect the Telegraph. I will dip into the Guardian if I want to read an alternative take on an issue which interests me. I don't use any of the tabloids and tend to dismiss whatever they say. If they are presented in a search I move on. Anything that is heavily edited to match the expectations of a particular readership, and fit around advertising, is not a serious analysis of an issue.

OK. All I would say is that some stories take some finding on the BBC - they're often included, if at all, under a sub-heading of local news rather than given any prominence. A bit like newspapers printing apologies.

Nicely put. I don't believe that BBC deliberately lies but they do give prominence to stories that fit their agenda whilst burying others on the site so that you have to look for it.

Case in point. This is the BBC's current lead story. No mention of the ubiquitous mental health problems.

You are though imposing your own beliefs on what you regard as deserving prominence. Every opinion on that will vary. Ask someone with far-left views and they too will be unhappy.

The BBC have guidelines and controls over their presenters and writers, which have been in evidence recently.

I therefore trust them to generally get things right. Certainly better than anything coming from those with strong political stances.

So what they think deserves prominence might not suit you, but it does me.

Time will tell on your last line. Or do ‘right wing’ media outlets get a different look from you ? It does appear so I would add.

They are reporting what the Police have said.

Just because an MP, and observers, have suggested the attacker had mental health problems doesn't mean he had, and it would be irresponsible reporting at this stage to say so. It's the sort of thing that the Mail would include, to try to excuse the behaviour. And, of course, has!

If he had a health problem I have no doubt that will be covered at the appropriate time. Which would be when a professional clinician who had diagnosed him has said said so. Until then it's tittle tattle being offered as an excuse.

Not the point. How many other similar cases have been blamed on mental problems? By all means have a go at the Daily Mail though.

We aren't discussing what I think deserves prominence. We are discussing what you think the BBC does. I think it reaches a generally fair and balanced approach, irrespective of my preferences.

By newspapers? I have no record, but suspect quite a lot.

By the BBC, without clinical confirmation? I have no record, but suspect few to none. At least not without some caveats.

I see that the BBC report on the fire bombing at Dover seems to have been updated to include this:-

"Tim Jacques, senior national co-ordinator for counter terrorism policing, said: "After considering the evidence collected so far, whilst there are strong indications that mental health was likely a factor, I am satisfied that the suspect's actions were primarily driven by an extremist ideology."

Which has been quoted by the BBC, and not ignored!

It is also a carefully worded statement by the police.
