I donít doubt it was their choice to sit amongst their own, which is what will be happening in schools, building site canteen rooms and other manual workplace canteens and other private corridor chats across London today. Thatís my point. The point about them being Dutch or French fluent is nonsense because they arenít both and speak some English anyway, and should try to learn more, as anyone living in another country should.

I donít really care but there isnít the reluctance from white colleagues to mix but thereís still not much mixing.

Great find Rubin.

The bits in bold below are the key ones and we're nowhere near being able to deal with them through fear.

Sad really, but we either accept it or screw ourselves up about it.

Walk into any racially mixed high school and you will see black youth seated together in the cafeteria. Of course, it's not just the black kids sitting together-the white, Latino, Asian Pacific, and, in some regions, American Indian youth are clustered in their own groups, too. The same phenomenon can be observed in college dining halls, faculty lounges, and corporate cafeterias. What is going on here? Is this self-segregation a problem we should try to fix, or a coping strategy we should support? How can we get past our reluctance to talk about racial issues to even discuss it? And what about all the other questions we and our children have about race? Beverly Daniel Tatum, a renowned authority on the psychology of racism, asserts that we do not know how to talk about our racial differences: Whites are afraid of using the wrong words and being perceived as "racist" while parents of colour are afraid of exposing their children to painful racial realities too soon. Using real-life examples and the latest research, Tatum presents strong evidence that straight talk about our racial identities-whatever they may be-is essential if we are serious about facilitating communication across racial and ethnic divides. We have waited far too long to begin our conversations about race. This remarkable book, infused with great wisdom and humanity, has already helped hundreds of thousands of readers figure out where to start.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

More like the sons and daughters of those who beat the Nazis voted for Brexit. As did I, but I now realise I was made of monkey of by Farage/Johnson, etc. whereas a lot of people on here don't want to admit to themselves they've been mugged...

Itís not that funny any more but neither is it a gesture that offers tacit support to the right - IN THIS CONTEXT. Itís a ridiculous assertion to read anything other than an attempt at humour into this.
Unless, of course, someone can give me a clear example of how WH has offended them?
The far right may support Brexit but so did most of my dads generation - ie those that confined the far right across Europe to the dustbin of history also voted for Brexit.

Not everything is about Brexit, not everyone who voted leave is far right.

Hmm, that may be the case BUT my point was that voting for Brexit is not synonymous with being on the far right and that, for the oldest generation, the reverse is probably true. i.e. they think that the EU is just trying to achieve the same National Socialist goal (without the violence) only via a legitimate back door they have created themselves. Notice that EU countries are now referred to as Ďstatesí not countries.
In this same way a soppy 1970ís Hitler pisstake, accepting it was ill advised, does not automtically render WH a Nazi sympathiser.

Whether people are happy or not with their voting decision, or feel mugged or not, is not relevent to this discussion.

If you allowed yourself to be influenced by people like that, perhaps you didn't deserve the vote in the first place. Pretty much everyone who voted to leave did so without the influence of pr*cks like them.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Agreed. 90+% of these pricks weren't even MPs or in politics the first time I voted for the right to vote on this.

Optimistic as ever

Yep, the very photo itself shows the self segregation within groups.

For me for the generations ahead, I think we will end up with multiple types of society...separation into a specific group and mixed.....It's already happening by sleight of hand economically.
