Are you naive enough to think you can still walk through all of London and feel safe and be safe? You can even walk through Brick Lane to spend money in a Bangladeshi curry house and some of the moronic Asian youth outside wonít want you there. Itís happened.

I had some young Muslim looking man try to go through the side of my car recently in Croydon opposite Fairfield Halls on the way to a night game instead of slipping in behind my car. Apparently my fault as he decided to vanish up the A232 in another direction towards Shirley after slipping the finger.

There are more serious things, like sitting on a bench in Romford. Romford isnít even inner London. Would anyone here be a sitting duck on a bench in parts of South London? Or knife attacks on train platforms or in the middle of Croydon in daylight as the brother of a murderer bangs his knife on your car window and gets out on bail as a lesson to him.

What youíre probably meaning is there are no no go areas at some times of the day, before the scum have risen for the day. After that not everywhere is safe or feels safe.

For the record you were OK with having less police on a different thread

London is a khazi. I lived in SE London for almost 30 years and watched it's fairly rapid demise. I have moved out to Kent (which also has it's problems) but never looked back.

I work in Central London so here every day. It is a dirty, over populated , pollution ridden city with increasingly less appeal.

I really don't see that that's relevant. Incidents like this are not a rarity now.

I'm glad I've got the f*ck out of the place.

I think there are some who are 'institutionalised' when it comes to London living.
They have little experience of living anywhere else and probably think that Kent or Sussex is some backwater where chickens and cows run loose on the high streets.

They don't realise what a grey, dismal, dirty overpopulated s*** hole London is.

Itís probable that people whoíve left London have a different view of the place. Iíve met dozens of people whoíve moved away and have no intention of going back.
Itíd be interesting to hear from those who are more sanguine about Londonís situation and future exactly why they are so confident.

It couldnít be that they chose where they live based on different reasons to you - they must be institutionalised and inexperienced.

Not that anybody's interested, but, i thought i'd throw mt 6d worth in. I wasn't born in this country, so when my parents moved back here(i was 6) in 1962, we lived in Streatham & then moved to Mitcham(it was posh then).

I was raised, schooled here. I had 5yrs in the RN & got married & lived in Northampton for over 20yrs. Unfortunetly the Falklands happened & due to my injuries my marrage broke down & i moved to Kendal for 7yrs.

My point being is, im now back in Mitcham & like Croydon, its a shytehole. London as a whole is either 'yuppyfied' or shyte no inbetween. It looks very increasingly that due to politics, we may be moving again & this time abroad.

London is not for everyone. Itís possible that those on this thread who have moved away due to not enjoying it anymore are experiencing a change of view due to getting older. Thatís ok, it doesnít mean things are necessarily getting worse in London.

Mostly I see things improving, gentrification suits me quite well although I have sympathy for long term residents priced out. I see plenty of jobs, we are statistically safer everyday. Donít let high profile terrorist attacks or reporting of knife crime fool you. The food gets better every day, the women are great, getting a date is easy, public transport is cheap, now we have the night tube.

Life is good.

Iím sure youíre right about age. I certainly feel differently to how I did 40 years ago but where I live now people are polite and friendly, house prices are affordable, beer is £2 a pint cheaper and life is just more pleasant and less stressful. It did take me a while to get used to shop assistants chatting though.
