There were 5 candidates who had to deal with quite a few questions in an hour and Emily Maitlis couldn't allow each one to make a speech, hence the interruptions.I happen to believe that had the programme been an hour and a half like the one on Channel 4, it would have been better viewing. In terms of the candidates, I believe Rory Stewart admitted himself that his performance was "Lacklustre" adding that the format never suited him.

Just heard him on LBC I still don't understand his position on Brexit. He said there is no chance of the EU renegotiating and that Parliament is deadlocked. So why would calling a people assembly solve this? Suppose the assembly says we want a different deal well if he is right the EU won't negotiate? Or is he just a Remainer in sheep's clothing.

Sure, we could debate how 'genetically' English the panel of Conservative contenders are but I wasn't referring to that....and besides it's a moot point since anyone from the UK qualifies. What I was referring to was in making a counterpoint to Dan's general downbeat attitude towards the English ethnicity. I never realised it would make that big a deal.
