I reckon apart from Pierrick and a couple of others who have trained/are training with the first team squad, there may not be anything exciting in the pipeline for a couple of years or so during which time we will have to manage with our ageing squad and possibly a few new younger additions over the coming windows. The results of the U23s gives an indication as to the potential being nurtured for the first team, it doesn't look encouraging. Upgrading the academy is a start, but it takes time.

I'm not sure I've implied anything different form what you are saying. The current U23s are NOT our future, hence we will need to wait for the younger teams. Perhaps I should have said five or so years.

Maybe I phrased my post badly - I meant quite a few people who I have contact with don't agree with your view and are not concerned that the club is being run badly. That's all from me...quibbling is such a waste of time for us all really.

I have been a strong critic of Hodgson this season and have felt we could have maybe collected more points if we attacked more- as we did v Newcastle.

This is true but it is tough to watch with the refusal to put a sub on when it is so obvious nothing is going to happen without one. Plus the whole mindset on the pitch v Newcastle was completely different to every other league game at Selhurst I can remember under Hodgson, right from the start. We weren’t relying on a chance maybe presenting itself. We made the game present the chances by imposing ourselves on the opposition rather than being so far away from them it’s like watching a training drill or preseason match. The approach for so long has been exactly the same, whether we play bottom 3 or top 3 teams, apart from on Saturday. It never ever changes and there’s never ever any real intent to change the dynamic of the game when we need to. We have better better at this under Roy. Now we’re usually stuffed if we don’t get the first goal. If we’re already behind and no sign of an equaliser, which has been the case, why have the subs been defensive, or like for like, asking no questions of the opposition? Or worse, defensive midfielders on for right backs and alike? Plus I hope our next era is worth this and the ownership issues.

The victory against a very poor Newcastle doesn’t mask the fact that Hodgson struggles to make decisions and have a plan b. The club should prepare for a new manager in the summer.

I often feel the same and agreed when I read this but then I did think of a few occasions where this wasn't the case so thought I'd look a little further. Surprisingly a 3rd of our points (11) have come from games where we didn't score first. Which considering we haven't scored many at all is actually probably quite a decent tally.

Agreed. The other time i’ve seen us really attack a team this season was Newcastle at their place. They are a poor team with a very defensive mindset and not much threat going forward. I think the point to emerge from the press conference is that Hodgson is looking for consistent performances over a series of games and is not deflected by individual games.

From 16 occasions of conceding the first goal or going behind we have won 2(both Wet Spam, drawn 5 and lost 9, so 11 points gained from losing positions). Compare that to some more illustrious teams and we're not that bad at getting back into a game: Having said that I do agree that Roy's substitution policy is frustrating. Having clearly said this last week that football is now a 14 man game we had to wait ages to see the first sub made.
