I believe that as a smoker and drinker, this thread is killing me off - I guess it's my own fault.

Yep - like me, but with any luck we'll go quickly and happy

Me too but we’ll lose out in the sanctimony stakes.

A bit of a killer combo, that's for sure. I tend to prescribe to the idea of 'pick your poison', as in one of them. It had to be the occasion drink or six at the pub with mates. I just can't imagine sitting there with a diet coke while everyone else is getting tanked up.

It's definitely killing off your bank account.

I used to be a heavy smoker until I gave it up about 15 years ago and the money that I have saved pays for a couple of overseas holidays each year

Some people can have a curious attitude toward non-drinkers. My wife doesn’t drink - no reason, just doesn’t like it - and has twice had her drinks spiked at works dos. Rest assured I didn’t know about it or I would have “had a word” with those responsible.
I also have a friend who went through the AA process and can now sit and drink water without bothering about the occasional looks from those whose combined pub attendance doesn’t approach his.
They also both insist on getting their rounds or putting full whack into a whip.
After past experience of drunken girlfriends I can highly recommend the situation.

This is now me having given up the booze, I am still one of the lads in the pub. My drink normally costs about 80p their £3. I could just buy my own drink but I just hate the idea. In fairness to my mates they buy me more drinks or add snacks so it kinda equals itself out.

I guess it's an odd way of doing it but I am happy to still be involved, going to the bar to order a round is like a ritual.

Fair comment maybe you should point this out to the arch virtue signaller that is Gary Lineker?

Not very moral making money off one of the contributors to obesity.

Yes and health consequences aside, the government tax people to death when they get them trapped in addiction territory! It's a much better option to remain healthy for yourself, yourself family and create memories together with the money saved. Everyone's a winner!
