Well, you can tell there wasn't much going on in the USA last night!

Particularly for those interested in the translation of the Bible into English, try and find something decent on the Lollards. Basically, Henry VIII used to kill them for having printed Bibles. However, their Bible has a lot in common with the King James Bible - and a couple of attempts in between. Might surprise you if you're interested.

LOL. I usually love all this political guff but what is going on now with regards to this election is beyond my comprehension. Covid has pushed everything through the looking glass.

Back in 2016 I was calling Trump as winning it from before he even got the nomination. And many of the same conditions apply now in terms of the rallies and the issues around the nominations which give the mood music for how things might pan out.

But at the moment? I geuninely don't know. Biden is an AWFUL candidate whose competency is simply a farce. The man should be retired and worried about growing his roses rather than in the running to be the worlds most poweful man.

Yet he seems to be winning, with the polling models all adapted to what they missed in 2016 giving it to him with some comfort.

And yet...Trump is clearly still at the top of his game. Brining out the numbers for the rallies, playing up to his supporters and so on. He has stopped the Middle Eastern wars, has made progress with regards to North Korea and has had the US economy humming and even with Covid, has got it back up and running.

Something is very, very amiss. Usually more than happy to make a call about how an election will pan out, and glad to accept the slating when I get it wrong, but now?

This US Presidential election is being gamed by the Democrats, rather than won. Democracy is in serious trouble and it scares me.

We could be on the verge of utter mayhem.

It's odd how people can see things so completely differently. I well remember an American friend of mine shocking me with his claim that Trump would be the next President, well before he announced his run. For me he was just the awful bully on "The Apprentice". How could anyone seriously believe that such a person would be suitable to hold such an important position? Nothing that has subsequently happened has changed my view. I have though come to realise how unsophisticated, uninformed and gullible some US voters are.

Biden might not be an inspiring candidate but has integrity, is a safe pair of hands who would surround a Presidency with wise advisers to whom he would listen. He is a short term bridge to a better future and might well be just a stalking horse. Most important of all he isn't Trump and offers a return to normality.

Trump being "clearly still at the top of his game" is true. However what that game is devides us into two clear groups. Never has that division been clearer than in recent days. It remains to be seen if one view or the other gains any support as a consequence.

I disagree with all the claims you make, which is no surprise as we are obviously in opposing groups.

The only "gaming" I see going on is by the Trump campaign who have taken over what used to be a decent Republican party. I see an awful lot of propaganda being hurled at the Democrats. I read it all on social media and cannot believe some of the nonsense that folk are prepared to accept without question.

I do though agree that Democracy itself is under threat, although I suspect we believe so for different reasons. Trump appears to be positioning himself to refuse to accept the result, claiming postal votes are not valid, Republican states appointing their own electors and endless legal challenges. There are strong hints being dropped to encourage extremists to take direct action and talk in some circles of civil war. None of these from the Democrats. All from Trump supporters and that's where the threat exists.

You might like to view this. It's illuminating:-

Yep. I reckon more than a few villages in the Middle East will be returning to the 'normality' of drone strikes and US workers can return to the 'normality' of their jobs being transfered abroad.

Happy days. You must be joyful at the thought.

The idea that Biden the 'child sniffer' has integrity is laughable...I should imagine he's very happy that his political friends are blocking the release of his Senate records

The truth is that Biden has lied since he turned up in politics.....it's been known about him for decades...he has a tendency to just make up stuff.

Even recently, when talking about security detaining illegal immigrants at the Mexican border he stated that during the Obama administration they 'didn’t lock people up in cages.'....errrr, there's photographic evidence that the containment methods were the same.

He said, 'Immediately, the moment [the Iraq War] started, I came out against it.'....another lie.

He said, 'I was always labeled one of the most liberal members of Congress.'....another lie.

Going back to 1987 Biden is on video stating that he 'graduated with three degrees from undergraduate school' and that he was the 'outstanding student in the political science department.'

These were outright lies. When it was researched it was found that Biden graduated 76th out of 85 students from within his law school class. He didn't even have a full scholarship.

Also back in 1987 Biden gave a speech that was found to have lifted whole sections from a speech by Neil Kinnock....In that speech Biden repeated word for word a story about his wife straight from Kinnock's speech.

In the same speech he said that, 'my ancestors…worked in the coal mines of Northeast Pennsylvania and would come up after 12 hours and play football for four hours.’....errrr, when researched it was found that none of Biden's ancestors had worked underground. He had literally lifted it from Kinnock's speech, whose family had.

In recent years he's told audiences that after the white house that, 'I became a teacher. I became a professor.', when in fact he had taken a salary to make speeches for the University of Pennsylvania. In reality Biden never taught students.

He told a story about travelling to Afghanistan for the purposes of honouring military heroism, he stated, 'This is God’s truth, my word as a Biden'. However, when the Washington Post checked it was found to be another lie.

Biden has claimed to have been arrested in the 1970s when he visited Nelson Mandela in prison.....another lie that never happened....He said that he was a co-sponsor of the Endangered Species Act....another lie.

We all know that Trump lies and make no claim otherwise. However when some try to paint Biden as an man with integrity.....Let's just say that's a sign of someone who is ignorant and winging it...or someone who isn't worthy of trust themselves.

Watched the Pence and Harris debate.

She was trounced and in comparison to Pence out of her depth.

She's yet another example of over promotion....a 'tick box' politician because of race.

Yup but none of this matters because the main thing is he isn't Trump that's all they care about.

I find the idea of politicians having integrity and honesty these days as laughable and anyone that thinks that their "guy (gender non specific" is morally better than the other candidate is naive.

It is sad but that is what politics has become all you can do is pick the candidate that you think has the best policies and hope that they will keep their word when in power.

Biden may not be as blatant and aggressively rude as Trump but as you point out he has plenty of skeletons in his closet so if Trump fails the character test by the same reasoning so does he and probably all of Congress.

However to the Trump haters that doesn't matter Orange Man bad Biden good.

Interesting! Whilst not 100% "cut and paste" it's pretty obvious where all this propaganda has been lifted from. Try reading this piece:- [Link]

"The Hill" is hardly an unbiased media outlet these days is it and every one of those claims is first twisted and then presented without responses given by the Biden team. He has apologised for occasional memory lapses when responding to questions and for errors of judgement. Biden admits he has made mistakes. Trump never does. Everything he does is either "great" or "perfect". That's where Biden scores on integrity over Trump.

Never have I, or indeed many people, suggested Biden is a "perfect" man. He isn't a great candidate, who has flaws, but at the base he isn't a wicked person.

When making any binary choice sometimes it's necessary to choose the least worse option and when one of those options is by far the worst POTUS in history it's very difficult for the alternative not to be better.

Indeed.

I doubt that most people who climb the greasey political pole aren't particularly honest as lying and disingenuous commentary works far more effectively.

We know that it's all about the political tribe and that is of course both for us and them. Anyone who is honest knows that their side lies, slants and cherry picks.

The truth is that there is no 'when they go low, you go high'....there are only 'whose lies you prefer' because they are closer to you politically.

Whether you are on the left or right you have to go looking for honest commentators....for me, I think there are more on the right but that's probably my bias.

However, I always found Jimmy Dore an honest lefty....You don't have to agree with someone to appreciate honesty.

You would see it like that wouldn't you?

Your opinion doesn't though appear to be shared too widely.

Most seem to have found the debate a refreshing exchange of ideas and in total contrast to what happened the previous week.
