Some would deny it of course but they are effectively dictators who crush any opposition. Of course democracy won't end when Biden gets elected. It will be enhanced. I have no problem with the real Republican party. Only with Trump and the Republican party he has created. So once Trump is out of the way democracy can be restored, primarily via the Republican's reclaiming their soul. It will doubtless be a battle, but if ever they hope to govern again, they must win. There are issues where we are all entitled to hold different opinions and remain respected. There are others on which we don't have enough expertise to reach an informed opinion, and therefore need to trust the scientific consensus. Climate change is one of the latter. When the overwhelming view of the specialist scientific community is that man-made global warming is real and, unless addressed, will cause the future generations immense harm we have a duty to act now. Objecting to that, and maintaining respect, is not possible. There is no time left for more long-winded debates and prevarication. There is no room for those who put today's economy and/or their personal political future above the need to act. As Churchill used to scrawl on his briefing papers "Action Today". There is no time to lose.

I think we should butt out of the US presidential debate. WTF has it got to do with us? If we all looked at it that way life would be much simpler. If you can’t vote, there’s no point in bitching about it. Wasted breath.

As I explained to you before I don't regard a vegan, or even a vegetarian, diet as being healthy for everyone, so we need to proceed with caution. Reducing our meat consumption, particularly of red meats, and consequently lowering the number of farm animals could make a contribution, as well as promoting more efficient land use. So I am not against that at all. My argument is that we need to follow the science and adapt our lifestyles in a variety of ways.

As I said before it is your choice what you eat but I sent a couple of links which, interestingly you didn’t reply to ( not like you) . Stopping eating meat would certainly help with climate change but as you believe you will be healthier eating it, that is up to you. Veganism potentially could be quite soil destructive. We have a major issue looming with soil degradation.

However, I feel the need to correct the assertation that "using diplomacy, internationally co-ordinated pressure and economic sanctions to gradually encourage the people to establish democracy for themselves" works. It has been tried in the past and failed.

I don't regard my response to your previous comment as "obnoxious" at all when it was answering a sarcastic jibe about something I had already explained. You are completely entitled to follow your own beliefs over this. So though am I.

It has been tried in the past and failed. You can hardly make any comparisons with Hitler conning Chamberlain, let alone drawing any conclusions from it, with what I said. We have learned a lot since then. We now have many more international structures set up. The lessons of WW2 were learned. That's not to say we don't need to be vigilant, take things at face value or trust the motives of our adversaries. Nevertheless, when mutual interests demand mutual responses they will deliver better results than doing things alone.
