There is though a political thread which connects Brexit to Trump. Not for nothing does Farage regard him as a hero, or Trump suggest Farage as Ambassador. It's all part of the same dangerous trend. Trump's removal could well be seen, when the history books are written, as the tipping point when the climb back begun.

Can you deal in anything other than generalisation?

So are you going to lump on the don this time?

Not lumping CP, mainly because it's virtually unknown for an incumbent to be re-elected during, or soon after, a recession.

It'll be ironic that jobs have been decimated by something invisible that no wall could keep out. If ever there was a year when you needed 2020 vision....

Next year's European elections in Germany, France, Holland and Austria will be interesting on the back of a recession. Maybe some betting opportunities to be had then.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

I read that story earlier today.

What struck me was the speed at which the station acted, the reasons he did it, his admission of error and contrition.

It was born out of frustration and there is no suggestion that he is anything other than a respected even-handed journalist who got tired of all the accusations of bias and allowed himself to be provoked.

So, no, no bias there at all.

No-body is making up your mind for you! The social media companies are though now adopting a stronger line on disinformation. Not on opinions, but on matters where there is evidence of deliberate attempts to mislead. Unless they do that how will people be able to trust what they read? It is not before time. The social media platforms have allowed far too much dangerously misleading garbage to be posted and accepted as true by the gullible for far too long.

Just so long as it is based on fact people can say whatever they like. Indeed they can even if it isn't based on fact, but then they must expect to be warned about it.

Freedom of speech is a precious right which must be protected. No argument about that. But with every right comes a responsibility and with this, it is not to deliberately lie.

They're not making up my mind as I won't use their platforms. They seem to have made your mind up though. Watch The Social Dilemma, it's not right wing or left wing, and I'll admit sensationalist in parts, but there is a core issue described. The deliberate lies cannot be decided in only one direction but not another. That is exactly what interference in a democratic process is. You can't only notice it when it suits your narrative/agenda. Is this ever going to get through to you? Seems unlikely as it has been pointed out clearly on countless occasions.

Not in any way. I was answering another point that used it as an example.

Brexit has happened. The task now is to expose why and then reverse it. No point in crying. Too much to do. Johnson is assisting a lot though.

Most of us who voted to leave know exactly why. Despite all the heavily funded Remain propaganda and support from the media, Leavers still prevailed.

Like many losers, you want to persist with some absurd excuses.
I become more sure that we made the right decisions with every week that passes.

As for Trump. Given the amount of anti Trump propaganda in every area of the media and the deliberate stiring of civil unrest, it would be truely miraculous if he won a second term.
It remains a sad situation when the Trumps of this world can become POTUS simply because the other side is so corrupt and is happy to see its European population rapidly replaced and its way of life contaminated in the meantime.

When musing about what might happen it's probably wise, don't you think? Specifics can only really be known after the event.

It's called being caught with your pants down. Bang to rights: actually hilarious that you will support this but condemn as untrue anything you don't agree with. You have made me laugh though, so thanks for that.
I hope everyone can see the comic value of this whole story.
Being called out on what you clearly are, and then inventing lies, getting caught again and having to apologise in order to save your ass, is hardly behaviour to be condoned. Why not just admit 'I can't be a moderator as I don't like Trump'?. That would have made him a hero in your book wouldn't it?

Did you actually read the story?

His reputation for even-handedness is well established, although he is not someone I have ever encountered, so hardly a hero. He did a foolish thing, admitted it and has accepted the punishment.

Contrast this with Trump himself who never admits a mistake and always attacks those who accuse him.

Just because Trump doesn't trust people who ask awkward questions doesn't mean he isn't suitable to moderate a debate. You need someone with some strength who is not going to be bullied.

I am subscribed to more Trump-supporting groups than opposing ones. I can see for myself why to oppose him, but trying to understand why people support him needs research. Sharing opinions is always a healthy aspect of democracy but that isn't the issue. It's the deliberate spread of misinformation which is and I only see that on the Trump sites, often as a consequence of his lies. Most of the stuff on the opposing sites are pointing out the lies. So I notice all right, but I suspect they get past you.
