Apparently, if you have been vaccinated for smallpox, you have 85% protection against monkeypox as the two viruses are very closely related.

This will only apply to the older members on here, as they stopped injecting smallpox vaccine as it had been eradicated.

Surely many of these changes can be explained through fact that it was perceived as a virus that was present elsewhere but is now appearing more locally.. It's an adjustment that is conistent with reality. It seems logical that there are tonnes of conditions almost never seen here that would have updated advice should impact closer to home. It's not an indication of some dark motive.

While you seemed primed, almost hopeful (to fit a paranoid outlook) that we'll soon be all locked up due to monkeypox, the reality is that in most if not all cases it's very clear what someone has it, which limits spread. Moreover DNA viruses change much more slowly than the flu or even covid. It's perfectly sensible to not want monkeypox to spread but we're not going to be having monkeypox lockdowns or walking around in special monkeypox gloves or monkey outfits. It's just something for people to get stirred up about.

Monkeypox origin story. During the covid pandemic in May 2021, the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and the Munich Security Council (MSC) convened an international pandemic war-game “Tabletop Exercise on Reducing High-Consequence Biological Threats.”

The scenario had participants imagine” a “global pandemic involving an unusual strain of Monkeypox,” a virus found in Africa, beginning one year later, on “May 15, 2022.”

In typical pandemic war-game style, the biosecurity simulation script imagined catastrophic outcomes with over a quarter billion deaths worldwide from the genetically engineered monkeypox strain.

Although the name sounds like it was written for a dystopian movie script, monkeypox is a real virus discovered in Africa in 1970; roughly 10% of cases are fatal.

Then, in mid-May 2022, right on schedule, authorities in the real world reported outbreaks monkeypox in Europe, the U.K., the U.S., and Australia. The WHO convened an emergency meeting to address the outbreak a few days later.

Fortune magazine reported on May 19 that “U.S. government places 9 million order for 13 million freeze-dried Monkeypox vaccines,” with an option to buy another 0 million, from biotech company Bavarian Nordic.

Technically, these were smallpox vaccines which are reported to be 85% effective against monkeypox.
