Possibly rescue flights? My daughter was stuck in Morrocco when this all first kicked off so followed the various social media feeds from the British Embassy in Rabat and so on, so still get the info.

And they have been putting on rescue flights, or rather organising for commercial airlines to be given landing and take-off permission by way of trying to repatriate British citizens so I would hazard a guess that this has been a similar occurrence in Algeria?

Yes, British citizens would be the primary customers but I would also guess that there might be others (for example my daughter at the time did have an option of flying back to a French or Belgium airport on other rescue flights) who have residency rights in the UK?

Totally agree with what you say but some of the passengers were foreign nationals with no right if residence in the U.K., just think it is bizarre that we are still allowing non-residents in, that’s all

I can confirm there were no NHS cavalry on the flight but I cannot divulge anything else (official secrets act and all that).

Go on. Tell him and then you'll have to kill him

I would assume that they would still be required to have a relevant visa and meet entry requirements. The airlines are liable for fines if people enter the country without the right of entry, hence checks at the airport of departure. Seems a little bit odd if this was not the case here.

You are correct but my point is why are we allowing people to travel to the UK at the present time. There is, of course, pre departure checks for correct documentation but not for Coronavirus, neither are they checked on arrival for the virus

Because ultimately it makes very little difference. Look, I promise you I am not seeking to be contrarian for the sake of it but the reality is that you cannot close down a modern countrys airspace for a disease like Covid-19, at least for any preventative purpose.

There is a French Aircraft carrier where out of a crew of 1600, 1200 have tested positive for Covid19. With 50% of them asymptomatic.

It is impossible to prevent it spreading. And with the level of infection in the UK, it makes no difference. That ship sailed months ago.

Isolating is about slowing the spread, not preventing it. With the harsh truth being, and one that no politician could ever admit, you want more and more people to become infected now. We have the medical capacity to cope with the small % of people who require hospitalisation and you probably want to ramp up infection rates now, not decrease them.

Some of the airlines are suggesting they will leave the middle seat free when they re-start. However I thought if someone sneezed or coughed the moisture drops went many feet so if someone at the back of the plane sneezes people towards the middle and will get it. So not sure keeping the middle seat free will help in that case.

Additionally as Spidey pointed out earlier how will passport control and baggage reclaim work if you have to keep 2 metres away from each other
