What really needs to be done is to have a system where fit and healthy young people go (building of some sort) where they can be infected and then kept inside for the duration of the virus, some need will be taking into consideration for nurse care but not too many just to keep an eye on everyone's health and then let out with a safe tattoo or wrist band (the nurses would have to have had this virus before this service starts) this will prevent spread to the wrong people and also provide a safe working force.

Too controversial though of course.

We're not suffering from a food shortage, we are suffering from people stockpiling food which has seem to have split the population between those who are trying to keep calm and the anti-social selfish c-u-next-Tuesdays deciding to buy everything they can.

And actually, I think nurses do have more right than most in the current situation.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

How often does one need to be tested. If I am tested today and found to be negative there is nothing to say that I won't catch it tomorrow

It's the "anti-body" test that is under development that should deal with this. Many people will have had the virus and either be totally unaware, or certainly untested as they didn't end up in hospital.

I believe this will be via a blood sample and that hospital labs have the capacity to test, once what is being looked for is known. This ought be quicker and available more widely than the type of positive tests now being done on infected people.

I guess NHS staff will be the first, so that they don't need to self isolate if they, or anyone in their family, display symptoms. Then the other key workers followed by the rest of us.

Once that is completed the brakes can be released and life can begin to resume. It would still mean restrictions on everyone testing negative but hopefully there will be enough testing positive to keep the wheels turning until a vaccine becomes available.

A kind of serious question.

Is it not in the Government's interest to let older/sick people get infected and die ?

That would reduce a lot of the pension pot deficit, and get sick people out of the NHS system. A few workers dying would free up spaces for the unemployed.

The Government have done a lot of posturing and media work, but very little in the way of advice and measures to restrict the virus.

I've just made a ventilator out of a plastic demi-john, some garden hose and an old hoover motor. Any takers ?
Is there anyone out there who is not a Key worker ?
Perhaps publicans and sports people.(and airline staff , who's industry is now f-cked anyway).
Shops are unable to deliver food for weeks and people are advised not to use public transport. So my elderly neighbours are going to die of starvation. The advice is clear,....but conflicting. The poorest people are yet again being impacted hardest. And using retired medical staff,...they need to be re-trained, but being elderly, aren't they themselves more vulnerable to the virus ?

China apparently was effective at stopping the virus, because the Chinese do as they are told, or are shot. Liberal Europe finds it harder to contain the virus as people will do what they want anyway.

in my limited understanding there may be inhibitor drugs available before a vaccine is produced - the same way HIV is permanently inhibited using a mixture of drugs - this would also free up more people who can carry on working and keep things going, but this is complicated because you don't want to mix people who have unwittingly become resistant and those who are still negative - some very clear strategy totally dependent on testing needs to be implemented asap, my guts tell me the country just needs to shut down apart from food, health and essential infrastructure services for about a month

Perhaps she doesn't have any more right to find food but she has far less ability to do so.

My wife is a nurse and she works 12 hour shifts leaving home at 6:00am and returning at 8:00pm so I don't know when she is supposed to go shopping.

I suppose that she could always join the "I'm all right Jack so f*** you" brigade but most nurses don't think that way

Young fit people have a much higher chance of not becoming ill and because there is nothing to prevent this virus from spreading (vaccine) this may well be a good way of getting people back into work safely.

The problem is nobody knowing if they have the infection and then these people infecting others who will need specialised help from hospitals, if we all knew the moment the infection gets a hold then we could control this very easily.
Young fit and healthy people are going to take risks because during this age we all tend to feel invincible but, along with this also comes recklessness through the inability to understand the dangers to themselves and others ...resulting in possibly spreading the virus to the very people who are not able to cope with it, which is the reason for our predicament and everyone else around the world ...not enough beds with enough intensive care nurses to operate them!

Controlling the spread of this virus is paramount to the amount of people taking up the care needed to keep them alive ..meaning, the severity of their infection will decide their fate before they even enter hospital due to not having enough space and time to help them.
I think Italy are in this situation now.

Testing is the one thing we need to take back control and testing is the one thing we aren't doing, probably because of cost and availability.

If anything it's people in the 40-60 age range that aren't taking the advice seriously from what I've seen. That stubborn 'I know best and going to carry on as normal - this isn't going to beat me' mind set.

People 20-40 actually seem to be taking this seriously and staying home.

Wow.

I would happily give up some food for a nurse right now.

We are only suffering from food shortages due to selfish pr*cks panicking and hoarding.

I can't believe that anyone would make such a comment in all seriousness. Who else should they let die after the older people have gone. Perhaps they should kill off the unemployed as well as they are just a burden on society and those with mental health issues to save spending money on them

Yes. Anyone who posts on forums throughout the day can't be classified as a key worker
