Which spectrum is that Tim? From the far left to the centre left?

from the far left to the looney left of spectrum.

With just a small touch of the autistic spectrum ... so they can shout and talk over you that Achilles , Anne Boleyn & Julius Caesar were really Afro-caribeann.

After scrapped free TV Licences for the over 75's, and making cuts amounting to many millions, Tim Davie the chief chappy at the Beeb is getting a £75,000 a YEAR pay rise, to bring the poor publicaly paid chap up to 525, 000 a year.

The PM gets 160, 000.....though admittedly that doesn't include all the expenses.

This institution simply isn't worth it....got rid of my licence earlier in the year and considering I was watching the BBC zero hours a week anyway it represents stopping an unfair transaction.

As I am sure you know, you need a TV licence to watch ANY live TV, plus the iPlayer etc. It isn't just for the BBC. Watch ITV, Sky or anything on the Freeviewer channels, and you need a licence.

So be careful. Someone might "dob you in".

Thanks for your concern.

However I was careful I knew the rules before I contacted the BBC to ditch their tax and the way the family's life is organised means the BBC isn't required.

I've already had the letters and the knock at the door. For those of you who would like to leave the BBC but are concerned by the fear mongering here is an excellent anti BBC YT channel that can inform you all about it.

I'll just add....the fact that the BBC get to penalise you even if you don't watch their shows just how outdated, unbalanced and unfair the current TV license is.

I stopped supporting the BBC for political plus value for money purposes but I'm not against paying for certain services in the future.

How does the BBC justified a 16% increase in salary? Has he slashed costs? Is customer satisfaction up? What measure of criteria did they use to justify it.

From what I have seen of his performance so far he has made some headway on reducing the really high earners and he has cut some jobs but basically this is all minor tinkering.

What is he doing to protect the BBC from the politicians and the public especially over the licence fee?

For his first year I would say steady as she goes no more than that, the real threats to the BBC still exist.

The Tories have protected the license fee until 2027.

I couldn't quite believe it when I found that out.....all the waffle and sabre rattling and it turns out that this is just another policy where the leadership speak one message to their base and do the opposite in practice.

No doubt, Covid would be a partial excuse but this is what we have multiple ministers for.....so we can kick backside and chew gum at the same time.

I'm in the camp where I think the BBC is irreformable and isn't worth keeping at anything like its current funding level.

Also, the current license fee set up is a disgrace and a throw back to the past in today's streaming world.

Just like the dockers and the print there is a window of opportunity for the BBC to make changes to head off the cancel the licence fee movement, however as you say I doubt they will reform to head it off.

There are plenty of things they could do to reform themselves and curb the excessive over reach of the beeb but they showed by appointing the current DG they will not do that.

Twenty years ago perhaps there was a chance, I know there were internal voices near the top about widening out cultural view diversity at the BBC but they rejected the opportunity.
