This confirms my lack of understanding.
I watch football for entertainment and hope to see my team play well .
I don't watch it thinking I need to understand a balance sheet.

He only has next season left. A season in which we will be relegated if he remains at the healm.

If we know he's not going to lead us in the future, what's the point in keeping him? Public acknowledgement of managers leaving at the season of a is rarely done. For good reason too. Once players know a manager is on their way out the managers influence on them diminishes. That's just human nature. Particularly when the managers plancs aren't working.

Take Advocaat at Sunderland. Saved them, then decieded to sign a one year deal instead of retiring and they tanked.

Allardyce at West Ham, his contract was running out and not to be renewed, had 9 wins in their first 19 games, and 3 wins in their second 19 games of that season.

You say none of us could come up with a better alternative that what Roy is serving up every week, and that we are boring. Let's look at our form for the last 7 games, P7, L7, F2, A17. I fail to see how you find that interesting or entertaining? Prehaps you can enlighten me? We are calling for some kind of change. To do something different to what isn't working. It's getting repetitive because nothing is changing. Not the line up, the tactics, subs, set plays, and most importantly - the results.

Can you really justify carrying on like this? What is Hodgson currently getting right?

The big picture is that he'd had 3 seasons, and we are currently in our worst state since promotion. A bunch of ageing players, poor performances, and an uninspiring manager who fails to take responsibility.[/quote]

I think we really do have to be realistic and acknowledge that Roy has done a fantastic job over the last three years with a squad of players that in the main were inherited from other managers. The loss of form of key players is something that no one could have foreseen,it is therefore hardly the managers fault. Then there are the injuries which is what you get and should expect when you have an aged squad, especially so when you are being asked to play matches every two or three days in more demanding summer conditions, this is especially a problem for the older players. On top all this Roy has not been backed in the transfer market despite making his requests known over the last few transfer windows. Those of us who are asking for the younger players to be given a chance,
fair comment, however, where are those players in this club who can step up from the U23 squad to PL level, it's a fact that they are not exactly setting the world on fire in their own modest league having scored only 27 goals themselves and are currently sitting second to bottom of that league. It would be absolutely silly to replace Roy before the end of next season not least of all because we need him to keep us up, this is in itself is going to be a tall order with the players we currently have or not have after some contracts come to an end. The board have no choice but to invest in team building this window if they do not then as many have already said, relegation at the end of next season is going to be very likely which will have serious implications for the clubs revenue, it financial value and maybe its future. It is time for Parish to start walking the talk!

The budget sheet indirectly impacts how we play. Have you not ever wondered why we have only signed free agent players or spent 2 million.

Unfortunately, football is all about money these days Patrick and no longer about goals scored and against. We have a wage bill of £79million a year, the shiny new academy will cost 3-4 million a year to run, plus everything else. It’s a business modal unsustainable in the championship. In summary, prior Roy we were losing a s*** load of money and since Roy we have managed to pay the debts and steady the ship and invest a little in a new academy which we will hopefully benefit from in 7-8 Years.

whereas i whole heartedly agree with your positivity we are still losing s*** loads of money, without awb sale we would have lost £40m last season so I assume we will lose similar this season if we dont sell wilf...luckily selling wilf may not be as important as this years figures dont count towards ffp due to covid.

getting rid of mamadou & bentekkers would slash that to a £20m losses without any fees received involved in the maths.

still...roy in...overall he is going a great job.

Are you saying that poor performance of the players isn't down to the management?

No, if you are talking about SP then he is responsible, if your talking about Roy, then no, he is not responsible, because he has dealt the cards that he has been given and done what previous managers could not do and that is save us from relegation with a very average squad. Less competent managers thought they could not do, so they walked away leaving someone else holding the baby!

I have to hold my hands up and acknowledge that I must know nothing about football.
I thought the aim of football was to both attack and defend - and to occasionally entertain would be a pleasant bonus.
We have a goals deficit of -19 this season and are the second lowest scorers with amongst the least amount of chances created in the league.
Hodgson appears to be seen as a miracle worker with this record but I don’t recognise such a world where this can be the case.
Therefore, I must misunderstand the fundamentals of the game.
I’m not disputing that there are mitigating circumstances but for Teflon Roy to escape any critical analysis seems bizarre.

Well, at last we agree on something !

Roy the miracle worker achieves 15 points in the second half of the season. I don’t call that a miracle I call it relegation form which we will undoubtedly take into next season.

A simple game. If you're challenging at the top then your plan is mainly about outscoring the opposition. If you're at our level / bottom half (and want to survive) it's clean sheets and building confidence on the back of it.

Luckily for us fans the clean sheets have been good enough this season.

The chairman is responsible for ensuring the players perform well?

In which case. What's the point in having a manager. Steve, take charge of the team, Ron Noades style!

I really thought the idea of a manager was to manage the players.

I'm going to tell my boss first thing tomorrow that I shouldn't be held accountable if my team fail to perform. When he shows me the door, can you represent me?

You have a boss? I thought you were the king of “management” football and life In general by the way you talk
