Do you think, if he had more quality forwards at his disposal, he would play a more attacking formation. In my view, Townsend needs to be moved on, bring Wickham back into the fold, acquire a winger and another forward.

Some supporters whom I have engaged in conversation with have it in their minds that even if we sign players with more flair, Hodgson would still play the same way with a rigid formation and a lack of rotation during a game.
Someone commented that if he was at Brentford with the same players at his disposal, they would not be as pleasing on the eye, indeed quite the reverse.

Apropos Wickham I have seen him play for Sheff Wed on 'Loan' and I wasn't left with the impression that he could make a positive contribution for us in the PL.

He'd certainly be able to play a more attacking game with a little more confidence. Not sure about bringing Wickham back now, to be honest but another winger and forward would certainly make a difference. Moving Benteke on I'd have thought would be more of a priority.

All this play the kids forgets one thing - Professional Integrity. We had to play the best team we could field as we were playing against teams with something to play for and to not try would not have been right. Bournemouth and Aston Villa were fighting relegation, Chelsea, Leicester, Wolves and Spurs were fighting for European football. Remember how we felt when Oldham beat Liverpool 4-3 resulting in us being relegated.

You state it often enough you have no time for Hodgson. He was at the end of a long line of managers to be let down by the so called cream of English, football, but never mind ah.
The fact remains the man hasnít been given the players to expand our playing style much beyond where it is . If you take into account the injury lists he has dealt with this year itís a wonder we didnít fill one of the dreaded three, But never mind that either .
Get him out and find another mug. Well at least you will feel a little better, if they did get him out , but the club will carryon struggling to cope with its present severe lack of player investment.
And you will be able to get stuck into another candidate for your dissatisfaction .

I think this is fundamentally where the difference in view comes from.

Whilst I recognise the squad is relatively weak, I donít agree this is even close to the best we could expect out of what we do have.

Go and look at our squads under Pulis or Warnock in the Prem - itís not even comparable.

On the subject of Dyche as potential replacement the Times is reporting today that he is paid more than any of his players at Burnley with a salary of £60,000 per week.
The impression given is that heís their most valuable employee and Iím sure there would be a hefty cost in trying to prise him away.
As others have pointed out he has a fair degree of autonomy at Burnley too which he would be unlikely to enjoy at Palace with the hands on involvement of Freedman and Parish.
Perhaps one of Hodgsonís most attractive attributes for Parish is that he is willing to work with constraints that perhaps other managers would not.

With Pulis, we finished 11th on 45 points. Warnock was manager for the first 17 games and we finished 10th on 48 points. This season, it was 14th on 43 points. All that really shows is that we've not really progressed, nor have we been appreciably more sh*t than other seasons. Without a HUGE cash boost, we are what we are - a fairly consistent mid to lower table side.

I would keep Benteke, he would benefit from a 4-4-2 system, as he keeps CBs occupied with his aerial ability and quicker partner could flourish. Townsend has dramatically declined, he looks like he is running in quick sand.

I notice you leave Pardew, and Big Sam, out. Warnock, only proved how hard it is to make a positive impression in this league . Pulis, left knowing he had gone as far as it would go. With regard to player recruitment.
And then the other two ,both had decent money spent, did either get beyond half way?
Then there is Roy, In three years a succession of fill gaps, a couple of injury risks , a couple of free transfers two or three successful loans, one a disaster , Oh and a Scandinavian , mystery performer .
Thatís not going to take any manager or team forward in a hurry.
For many this is all about style , the problem is style doesnít keep you in with the big boys, only all round ability can do that . Itís an area we havenít improved significantly since Hodgson took the job.
Both Norwich, and Bournemouth , had some style Watford capable.
So much for that.

Absolutely. I don't think it matters whatever players Hodgson has available, what we see is his game philosophy in action. Taking this a step further, and this has been mentioned by others, what would entice a forward thinking player to sign for the Palace, knowing that these are the tactics? Equally, what is going to entice the young Palace fan of the future if the only thing on offer is 11 men behind the ball playing side to side, with the opposition having the majority of possession? Let's not mention the second lowest goals for count...

This thread is marvellous. The divide between Roy IN and Roy Out is massive and there will be no agreement anytime soon.

I am in the Roy in camp but I have had my days when I have wanted the opposite. I may be biased but I think the Roy OUT camp make absolutely no sense with their argument for wanting him gone.

The same repetitive comments about only playing defensive midfielders, but I think if you asked Jimmy McArthur he would tell you he is not a defensive midfielder. Then in the same breath you scream for Riedewald to play who is a centre back or an out and out defensive midfielder.

You bang on about lack of subs but you all seem to be blind to the fact that our benches on match days have players on it who are literally just there in case of emergency as our squad is so threadbare.

We play the same starting team because we have to, why would we play weaker players just to keep some of you lot happy? Most teams in this division have 2/3 players in every position, we have 1 striker, 1 right back, 3 wingers.

Brandon Pierrick is not the answer to our problems and more than likely will be playing in league 1 very soon and the same goes for Sam Woods. Why should he play them for the sake of it? To see if theyíre good enough ? He knows they are not good enough because it is clear as mud when he watches them in the under 23ís.

Open the eyes on your heads and have a look at our squad on a weekly basis and you will see why we play as we do. Open your eyes and look at our injury lists on a weekly basis. I often hear you say but we have a good squad on paper. Paper doesnít win football matches, half of them are constantly injured.

Schlupp, Townsend, Benteke, Sakho, Tomkins, Kelly, Cahill, Dann have all missed a massive amount of games this season.

You all have very short memories and choose to be blind to the faults in our squad. There is one reason we have stayed in this division this year and that is our defence before Covid and our boring tactics.

One last point I forget to mention was, People constantly banging on about Wickham and that he should never have been let leave. I feel sorry for Wickham as his top level career is over but he was let leave by Roy because Roy couldnít promise the chap game time and he was also replaced with Tosun who very unluckily got injured. Again not Royís fault.

Your comparing apples and oranges. Have a look at the league in those years and the strength of all the other teams.

I am in agreement with the general thrust of these sentiments and we are of like mind on a lot of the minutiae.
