I also don’t think you can play PVA if Eze is to play against Sheffield this Saturday. They both struggle to defend and the left side will be open if they do. I think Saturday RH will bring Eze back but let’s hope he will keep Mitchell at left back. If PVA plays then it has to be Schlupp in front of him - Think the team is more balanced and protected at the back with those two on the left?

Sorry to keep banging on about this but Eze is playing out of position. He is not a left midfield he should be playing as a 10 next to Benteke. Get Schlupp in his best position which is left midfield and get Zaha where he should be on the right wing getting crosses in for our centre forward. It is more than beyond their whit for the Schlupp, Eze and Zaha roles to be interchangeable during the game. This gives us left/right balance and allows for two ball winners in central midfield.

I agree. If Eze plays MItchell needs to but if PvA plays then we'll need Schlupp in front of him. Sheff U will want to pump balls into the box and we need to minimize that threat.

It's remarkable that team selection can be based around finding adequate cover for a defender who can't defend. Square pegs round holes.

It's a challenge because we look more likely to score with PvA/Eze but less likely to concede with Mitchell/Schlupp. On paper you would think Sheff Utd is a game where we should favour the more offensive partnership. For me you always find a way to accommodate your best players and to my mind Eze is one of our best players. Playing him on the left seems to be leaving us exposed so Roy needs to look at how he sets up. Last season 4-3-3 was very workmanlike for us, but I think a front three of Eze-Wilf-Ayew/Townsend with Schlupp on the left side of a holding midfield three could be effective. Roy has shown a willingness to rotate the squad when players aren't performing, but I do think he needs to possibly change the formation sometimes too.

I think Mitchell will retain his place, for what it's worth. He does need to show more going forward though, and he needs to get tighter on his man to stop so many crosses coming in.

I agree, however I don’t think RH does I’m afraid.

Given PVA's form and the relative inexperience of Mitchell I'd play Schlupp at left back for the time being.

Michell IMO is one for the future but he ain't quite there yet and looked a little suspect against Leicester.

Meantime we need to be getting results.

Sorry, i disagree, i think Mitchell is ready, he's already proving that. I refer ylu back a cpl of seasons to AWB.

I don't disagree with the parallels to AWB and think you're right Mitchell has potential there's no doubt about it.

But I'm just not sure he is there just yet - hence I'd play Schlupp for the time being.

But opinions is opinions..!!

Schlupp is a far better left back than both PVA (who I think is s***e) and Mitchell ( who I think is a decent player but has a lot to learn).
Schlupp isn’t scared to get stuck in and is a very versatile and valuable player IMO.

No problems there, but if we use Schlupp as LB, who do we use as left wing, Eze?

Both Schlupp and Eze are not wingers and to play them as such is not playing to their strengths.

Schlupp is more effective tucked in more centrally on the left.

Eze at QPR played far more centrally, more as a No 10 where he could get on the ball in more central positions, ghost past players and create opportunities either directly or indirectly with his movement.

In our 4-4-2 system we lack the extra dimension of attacking full-backs who could provide the width to enable Eze and Schlupp to operate in more central areas.
