Rather than reduce the price I think supermarkets will reduce quality. I look up the reviews on Tesco before buying and I often get 'this is not so good as previously' indicating this. Some of the stuff I am keen on gets really panned there so what do you do. Cheap sausages a very false economy, but they don't have anything that you would call quality on sale either. Should be giving up meat anyway1

But yeah, if you can"t get any quality stuff a handfull of nuts and half a bowl of fruit probaby does you better and twice as tasty!

The cheapest meat always sells. The biggest purchasers are the food manufacturers and restaurants. Generally they aren't too sensitive to quality, only to price. So we shall be importing some right rubbish very soon. It is interesting to note that according to the WWF Australia produces more food related emissions per capita than Argentina and Brazil and WAY more than the UK. But of course that doesn't get priced in. So who was happy about our new trade agreement with Australia? And by the way, look at the importance of the EU to the industry. 70%, 90% and 95% of pig meat, beef and sheep meat exports respectively. Edited by Mapletree (08 Jun 2021 9.38pm)

700,000 vacancies whilst 2m people sit on their backside many of them work in hospitality. Time to end furlough for the good of the country.

Maybe raise VAT 1% to counter that, I've always said Income taxes are the main reason you can't fill lower paid jobs.

Perhaps but we should first stop paying people to sit at home. The hospitality industry is crying out for workers and those workers are being furloughed.
